Mt. Sterling, Ky.

The third edition of the Bluegrass Gelbvieh Invitational continues to build its reputation for solid Gelbvieh genetics. Many first-time buyers were in attendance at the sale facility near Mt. Sterling, Ky.

Topping the sale was a Lot 7/7A. The cow is ALS KY's Black Summit 606G, a POW Pld Black Imprint 386Z daughter. She brought a bid of $2,600 from Joe Houchens of Bowling Green. The February 2005 bull calf at side, sired by ALS Freedom's Reflection, brought a bid of $2,900 also from Joe Houchens.

Next high selling lot is a bred cow sired by WAC Plaines' Anchor out of the high selling Lot 7 cow. Lot 47 sold to Leo Phillips Gelbvieh Farm of Lexington for a bid of $4,100.

Volume buyer for the day with 10 lots was Larry Clark of Greensburg.

Several lots sold for $3,000 plus. A summary follows:

Lot 16: $3,200—MMMG Extras Black Lady, 4/19/99 Flying H Extra 150D female with a WAM Stonewall heifer calf. Buyer: Leo Phillips Gelbvieh Farm, Lexington.

Lot 19: $3,200—GBNR Miss Carolina 365J, a 9/9/99 Flying H Extra 150D female with a Beretta heifer calf at side. Buyer: Leo Phillips Gelbvieh Farm.

Lot 25: $3,100—GBNR Miss Marty, 11/25/00 AR Marvin 5J daughter with a GBNR Celebrity bull calf at side. Buyer: C-Cross Farm, Asheboro, N.C.

Lot 37: $3,100—ALS Miss Summits Beauty 740L, a 12/18/01 HHF Polled Summit daughter with a JRI Pld Free Agent heifer calf. Buyer: B&W Farms LLC, Princeton.

Lot 46: $3,100—ALS Ms Black Powers' Image, a 1/18/03 JBOB Black Image daughter with JRI Pld Free Agent bull calf. Buyer: Larry Clark, Greensburg.

Lot 33: $3,000—GBNR Miss Beretta, 8/16/01 SPUR Beretta female with GBNR Trump bull calf. Buyer: Beech Run Farms, Albright, W. Va.

Lot 38: $3,000—GBNR 579M Miss Bar None, 2/11/02 BTI Red Alert 2077K female with GBNR Celebrity heifer calf. Buyer: Larry Clark, Greensburg.

Lot 41: $3,000—ALS Miss KY Rainbow, 3/9/02 WAM Stonewall daughter with TLR Cocoa bull calf. Buyer: Larry Clark, Greensburg.
