A nice crowd was on hand on a very blustery day for the 17th Annual Yon Family Farms Performance Tested Angus & Charolais Bull Sale. The sale was held at the farm in Ridge Spring, S.C. on February 17, 2007. A total of 134 bulls sold, with 128 yearling Angus bulls selling for an average of $2357, while five yearling Charolais bulls averaged $2,440, and one Angus/Charolais composite sold for $2500.
Topping the sale were Lots 5 and 6. Lot 5 was a son of GAR Yield Grade and had a huge Birth to Yearling EPD spread. He was selected by Ed Coker in Hartsville, S.C., for $7,500. Also selling at $7,500 was Lot 6, a thick, deep bodied, son of GAR Predestined. He sold to Hardee Farms from Chiefland, Fla. for use in their registered Angus herd. The 2nd high bull, Lot 1, was a son of VDAR Legend and he was selected by Five Circle Farm in Belton, S.C., for $6,500. Lots 2 and 7, both sons of SAV 8180 Traveler 004, rounded out the top five sellers at $5,000 each. Bobby Baker, from Lancaster, S.C., selected Lot 2, a powerful growth bull, while Ray Galloway from Darlington, S.C. chose Lot 7, the top gaining bull on test.
The top selling Charolais bull was Lot 147 and he sold for $3,200 to Brantley Jamison, from Blackville, S.C.
Over 58 percent of the bulls sold to repeat buyers from the Yon performance program, with 76 percent of the top twenty-five selling bulls going to repeat customers. Bulls were sold into both Carolinas, Georgia, Florida, Mississippi, Louisiana, Virginia, West Virginia, Tennessee, and Ohio.
As an added attraction to the sale, the Yon's also sponsored their Open House, offering special deals on Powder River equipment, Tru Test Scales, and Stafix Fencing, feed, minerals, and animal health products.
Yon Family Farms hosts two annual sales on the third Saturday in February and on the first Saturday in November each year in Ridge Spring. You may contact the Yons to be added to their mailing list at kyon@pbtcomm. net or (803)685-5048.
