Over 500 spirited Simbrah enthusiasts were in attendance at the MAS Simbrah SHOWDOWN and Sale II held March 28th & 29th at La Muneca Ranch near Linn, Texas. Longtime Sim-genetics guru Warren Garret wrote Congratulations on another awesome event! There was more excitement, more involvement and more commitment shown at this sale than last year's. The hospitality was incredible, the cattle were wonderful and the attitude of all those who attended and/or participated was electrifying. Progress for the advancement of the Simbrah breed continues to be made with this show and sale. The MAS group has rejuvenated old breeders and energized new breeders. On behalf of all Simbrah breeders everywhere, THANK YOU for organizing and hosting such a tremendous event.
A highlight of the weekend was the $15,000 awarded in premium money to the MAS Junior Simbrah Exhibitors who exhibited their Simbrah heifers in the MAS $15,000 SHOWDOWN. $7,500 was awarded in Showmanship premiums to five different age divisions paying ten deep in each class. The top two in each division won belt buckles plus cash. Winners were (8 - 9 yrs. old) Adrianna de los Santos and Roy Duleba (10 11 yrs.) Bailye Foltyn and Maycie Wells (12 13 yrs.) Michael de los Santos Jr. and Liana Flores (14 15 yrs.) J. P. Guerra and Marco Flores, and (16 18 yrs.) Richard Foster III and Hondo Martinez. The MAS Showmanship judge was Brad Gontz.
Liana Flores won the SHOWDOWN Grand Champion Purebred Simbrah with LMC Miss Texas and received a $3,000 premium check. Jordan Grahmann received $1,500 for his Reserve Grand Champion, LMC Blueberry. Other division winners included Calf Champions, Liana Flores and J.P. Guerra, Junior Champions, Jordan Grahmann and Danielle Seaman and Senior Champions Richard Foster III and Curtis Fox. Hunter Sorrells won the SHOWDOWN percentage show with his F-1 Simbrah named LMC Ivy Rose and received $600 in premiums. All of the champions were bred and sponsored by La Negra, Thunder and La Muneca Cattle Companies. Dwight Sexton judged the MAS SHOWDOWN cattle show.
La Muneca Cattle Co also had their annual LMC Jackpot and awarded $8,750 in premiums to their junior clients. Frost Bank Richard Foster donated $1,250 of these premiums. The champion heifer was exhibited by Jordan Grahmann followed by Reserve Liana Flores, 3rd Hunter Sorrells, 4th Hunter Sorrells, 5th Adriana de los Santos, 6th Danielle Seaman, 7th Richard Foster III, 8th Maycie Wells, 9th Jordan Grahmann and 10th Alyssa Martinez.
The Champion Junior Showmanship winners were Michael de los Santos, 2nd Jordan Grahmann, 3rd Regan Duleba, 4th Liana Flores, 5th Hunter Sorrells and 6th Adriana de los Santos. The Champion Senior Showmanship winners were Richard Foster III, 2nd Alyssa Martinez, 3rd Hondo Martinez, 4th Megan Barba, 5th Matt Tingle and 6th Justin Escamilla. Showmanship was judged by Mr. and Mrs. Chris Shivers. The cattle were judged by two prominent South African Breeders Johan de Jager and Graeme Currin.
Another highlight of the sale were the donation lots for the Rafael A. Guerra Memorial Scholarship Fund, American Jr. Simbrah Round Up Scholarship Endowment Fund and ASA Simbrah Advisory committee. Donors were Vela Cattle Co., Gilbert and Emma Garza, Franco Trevino, Dr. Omar Garza, Smith Genetics and La Muneca Cattle Co. Buyers were Jeffrey Sorrells, Herb Riojas, Felo and Stef Martinez, Dr.Boyd Bien, Felo Guerra, John Runnells, Rafter M Cattle Co., Tom-Lin Ranch, Bet M Ranch, JHC Ranch, Cecil Peters, Skip Butler, David Cantu, Vela Cattle Co., Sklar & Son and Pine Ridge Ranch. $16,150 was raised for the Rafael A Guerra Memorial Scholarship Fund, $8,000 for the American Jr. Simbrah Round Up Scholarship Fund and $4,800 for the ASA Simbrah Advisory Committee for a total of $28,950.
One of the original goals of MAS was to expand our bull markets which we successfully have done selling 108 yearling bulls for a $2,265 average in two sales. The five top selling herd bull prospects were consigned by La Muneca. The two top sellers were full ET sibs, LMC Warrior and LMC Patriot sired by Red Bullet and sold for $5,300 and $5,000 to Hernando Guerra and Skip Butler The third top seller was LMC Hero selling for $4,000 to Broken Oak Braunvieh Ranch from Seguin to start their Simbravieh program. The 4th top seller, LMC Red Buck sold to LPJ Ranch from Linn for $3,800. The 5th top sellers sold for $3,500 and were bought by Broken Oak and JHC Ranch from Cameron. Forty-nine bulls grossed $105,050 to average $2,142.
The top selling pair was consigned by Alyssa Martinez and La Muneca and sold for $11,850 with the cow sired by 6G LMC Knockout selling for $8,750 to Joe B. Rodriguez from Floresville and the bull calf by LMC Ocho selling to Rusty Williams from George West for $3,100 The second top selling pair was consigned by Marco Flores and La Muneca and sold for $10,100 with the cow, LMC Senorita selling for $6,000 to Bud and Lupita Wentz and the heifer calf by T-Cat selling for $4,100 to Dennis Thomae from San Benito. The third top selling pair, LMC Faith was a Liana Flores and La Muneca consignment selling for $6,100 with the cow selling for $4,000 to Bet M Ranch from Castroville and the bull calf selling for $2,100 to Ruben Canales. Twelve pairs grossed $63,500 for a $5,292 average per pair.
The top selling embryo lot was consigned by Reavis Farms and Smith Genetics selling four embryos out of the 2007 Reserve Grand Houston Champion, Rio Princess for $1,700 per embryo to Pine Ridge Ranch from Athens. La Muneca, Reavis Farms and Smith Genetics consigned the 2nd & 3rd top selling embryo lots selling two embryos that were full sibs to two past International Champion bulls out of LM She Moves and HR Power House and two by LM Full House for $1,200 per embryo to Pine Ridge. Sixteen embryo lots sold for $29,250 for an average of $1,828 per lot or $818 average per embryo on 38 embryos.
The bidding was spirited on some of the proven donor cows headed up by the many times champion LMC Mariah consigned by Victor Guerra and selling for $4,400 to Sue Duleba from Mission. The second top selling donor was LMC Sophie consigned by Baring Cattle and La Muneca selling for $3,300 to La Negra Cattle Co. Two pick of the herd lots averaged $4,375 with the Pick of the Monte Christo herd selling for $4,750 to Bud and Lupita Wentz and the Pick of the Thunder Calf Crop selling for $4,000 to Curtis Fox from Corpus Christi.
The top selling flush was consigned by Hunter Sorrells, Rafter M and Littlefoot Cattle Co on the champion 4LC Aggie selling for $3,400 to La Muneca. The 2nd and 3rd top selling flushes were consigned by Lesli Garret, Jordan Grahmann and La Muneca and sold for $1,700 to Rusty Williams and TSSA President Cecil Peters. Four flushes grossed $8,200 to average $2,050 per flush.
A Marco Flores and La Muneca consignment sired by LM Full House topped the bred heifer offering selling for $6,000 to Aaron Gonzalez from McAllen. The second top selling bred heifer was a LMC Gladiator daughter consigned by Milo Flores and La Muneca selling for $4,200 to Richard Foster III.
The demand on show heifer prospects was strong with Alyssa Martinez and La Muneca consigning the top seller, a LMC EF Johnnie Walker Black daughter that sold for $10,250 to Bud and Lupita Wentz. The second top seller was a NF Smith Sargeant daughter consigned by Reavis Farms that sold for $6,000 to Aaron Gonzalez and Richard Foster III. The 3rd top seller was LMC Pretty Moves with 1/2 interest selling for $4,200 to Bud and Lupita Wentz. The 4th and 5th top sellers brought $3,000 and were consigned by RGV Cattle and Samantha Garcia, a junior exhibitor selling to Liana Flores, Elias Lozano and La Negra Cattle Co.
The percentage offering was topped by a 3/4 a 1/4, LMC Sabrina with 1/2 interest selling for $7,000 to Bruce and Melissa Van Meter from Georgia. La Negra consigned an F-1 Goldmine daughter that sold for $3,000 to Bud & Lupita Wentz. Vela Cattle Co. sold a Red Brahman heifer for $3,500 to Bud and Lupita Wentz.
Volume buyers were Bud and Lupita Wentz, Alvaro Gonzalez Family, Bet M Ranch Dr. Ernesto C. Guerra, Broken Oak Ranch, Skip and Janice Butler, Joe B. Rodriguez, Pine Ridge Ranch, Runnells - Pierce Ranch, Sklar & Son, Santos Escobar, Hernando Guerra, Rusty Williams, Rafter M Cattle, 2CC Cattle, La Negra Cattle Co. and La Muneca Cattle Co.
The total MAS Simbrah sale grossed $378,000 on 150 lots for a $2,520 average per lot. 49 bull lots grossed $105,050 to average $2,142 per lot. 80 female lots grossed $237,300 to average $2,966 per lot. 16 embryo lots averaged $1,828 per lot.
