The ever increasing demand for Fleckvieh and Fleck-influenced genetics was readily apparent at the eighth annual Quest for Fleckvieh Excellence Sale held at the scenic Dollar's Diamond D Ranch on September 22nd. Kent and Glenna Dollar and guest consignors sold 48 lots of full Fleckvieh for a total of $500,730 to average $10,432 per lot. Buyers from 20 states which include Arkansas, Virginia, Tennessee, Texas, West Virginia, Colorado, Georgia, Oklahoma, Missouri, Iowa, Mississippi, North Carolina, Ohio, Illinois, Alabama, North Dakota, South Dakota, Michigan, Kentucky, Washington. Foreign interest was also high as Canada and Brazil all made selections throughout the day.

The high selling lot of the day was ½ of the U. S. semen rights on the bull, Sunny Valley Sargent, a polled DFM Marcus son offered by Dollars Diamond D Ranch and Professional Livestock of Montesano, Wash. The emphasis on polled genetics was unmistakable as 16 reputation breeders (Snell Simmental, Snellville Ga.; Foster Mills Simmental, Lafayette Ga.; Moore Farms and Indian Creek Cattle Company, Huntsville Ala.; Indian Valley Ranch, Dover Ark.; Phil Caputo/Double H Farm, Vilonia Ark.; Dickey Farms Simmental, Cord Ark.; Royale H, Jamestown N.D.; James Creek Simmentals, Heaton N.D.; Champion Farms, Bidwell, Ohio; T5 Livestock, Wolfe City Texas; Mitchell Lake Ranch, Franklin Texas; Little Creek Farm, Starkville Miss.; Twin Forks, Bryant Ark.; Cooper Farms Fleckvieh, Olathe Colo.; and Rocking V Farm, Berea Ky.) formed a syndicate to purchase the interest for $50,000. Lot 30, a polled donor prospect by Dayton's Pol Neumann consigned by Greg and Paige Kemp's Indian Creek Cattle Co., Huntsville, Ala., went across the block for $28,000 going to Little Creek Farm, Mikell and Mary Cheek Davis of Starkville, Miss. Bright Star Fleckvieh, William, Matt and Hilary Tyler of Washington, Ark., placed the final bid on Silkky Piona, the first Piona daughter to sell in the U.S. Offered by Dollar's Diamond D Ranch, she sold for $26,000. Dollar's impressive Miss Salamon also found a new home with Indian Creek Cattle Co. Carrying the service of the immortal Broadway, she sold on a final bid of $25,000. A fancy polled Raffles daughter, IVR Bella, consigned by Allan and Glenna Roberts' Indian Valley Ranch, Dover, Ark., made a lot of friends throughout the day but Jim Ethridge and Donna Adams of Mitchell Lake Ranch, Franklin, Texas, outlasted the pack to claim her for $22,000.
