The annual Camp Cooley Ranch Brangus Female Sale was once again met with strong approval and appreciation by fellow Brangus breeders. The standing room only crowd from across the United States paid an average price of $6,288 for the 104 lots offered. The sale featured the total sale of all K models in the herd, which had generated more than $1,108,000 in past progeny sales for Camp Cooley. Breeders bid aggressively to add the earning power of these proven producers to their programs.
Headlining the offering was Miss Brinks Geronimo 535K14, a daughter of Geronimo of Brinks. This maternal sister to the breed great, Cadence, is the dam of five herd sires currently working in the breed, including Ditka and Rowdy. She is the #5 ranking female in the breed for milk and her EPD tabulations include rankings in the top 10 percent for yearling weight and top 20 percent for weaning weight and REA area. One-half interest and full possession generated a final bid of $49,000 from David Woods, Houston, Texas. Also, she was safe in calf to Griese of Brinks 803R27.
Wyliss Kemp, Pontotoc, Miss. added the breeding power of Miss Brinks Best Bet 392K17 to his program. 392K17 represents a rare combination of curve bending numbers and is the #7 ranked female in the breed for birth weight and #68 for intramuscular fat. In addition, her EPDs place her in the top two percent for milk and top 25 percent for yearling weight. She is the daughter of the $64,000 Jesse of Brinks 392P105. One-half interest and full possession in this breed matriarch sold for $29,000. She was safe in calf to Unitas of Brinks 361R6.
New breeder, Josh Reynolds of RRR Ranch, Claxton, Ga., was the volume buyer at the sale. Included in his purchases was Miss Brinks Bright Side 30K3. This proven donor, with a Largent of Brinks 784R17 bull calf at side, is currently ranked as the 13th high female in the breed for REA. She also ranks 49th for YW and 57th for WW and her EPDs place her in the top 15 percent for IMF, 10 percent for scrotal circumference. This sale feature sold for $28,000.
Another Georgia breeder, Lee McFarlin, made the final bid of $24,000 for one-half interest and full possession of donor female, Ms Brinks Bright Side 468K8. The female, sired by Bright Side of Brinks 789G5 and out of a Cadence-bred dam, ranks #16 for REA and has EPD rankings of top 5 percent for YW, top 15 percent for WW, top 10 percent for BW and top 25 percent for Milk. Her pedigree makes her a full sister to Lombardi of Brinks.
Twenty units of semen were offered from Robertson of Brinks 209S9, a now deceased son of Brinks Bright Side 607L11. Josh Reynolds of RRR Ranch, Claxton, Georgia, purchased the semen for $1,000 per unit.
