Franklin, Texas

Camp Cooley Ranch, Franklin, Texas, hosted its annual bull sale, featuring Brangus, Charolais and Angus breeds on November 16th and 17th. The Create Opportunity, Value, Performance Sale was once again an industry event and drew cattlemen from across the United States. The Camp Cooley program recognized for its superiority of product, and unmatched customer service, marketed their females and bulls, as well as the bulls of their cooperators to the leading purebred and commercial herds in the beef business over the course of the two days. The strong demand throughout the sale speaks volumes to the strength of the Camp Cooley program as overall 1,086 bulls averaged $3,369. Averages by breeds saw 481 Brangus bulls average $3,935, while 208 Charolais bulls averaged $3,240 and 397 Angus bulls averaged $2,750.

Singletary of Brinks 675R was a hot topic among those in attendance and his popularity was evident at sale time as many prominent breeders chose to bid. He drew the top bid of the bull sale, as full possession, one-half semen interest sold for a final bid of $140,000 to David Wood, Houston, Texas, who also purchased the high-selling female. The Lead Gun of Brinks son posted EPD rankings of top one percent for YW, top two percent for scrotal circumference, top three percent for WW, top four percent for REA, and top 10 percent for IMF, while ranking in the top 20 percent for BW. His dam, is an Uppercut of Brinks daughter, which traces back to K0 of Brinks.

Claxton, Ga. new breeder, Josh Reynolds, added the sire power of Washington of Brinks 302S47 to his young herd for $60,000. This bull, also sired by Lead Gun, showed EPD rankings in the breed of a top four percent for REA, top 10 percent for YW, top 20 percent for BW and IMF and is in the top 30 percent of the breed for WW. His dam, 302L9 is a maternal sister to a previous high-seller, Newt of Brinks.

Top in the Angus offering, was Cooley Tyler 4088S, a GAR Retail Product son. His estimates earn top percentile rankings for $B, REA, Milk, and top three percent for yearling YW and top 15 percent for IMF and WW. He was purchased by Sammy Ward, Corsicana, Texas for $9,000.

Cooley Titus 931S, a Rito 1I2 of 2536 Rito 6I6 son, was also a favorite of bull buyers. Statistically this bull ranked in the top two percent of the Angus breed for $B and YW, top 10 percent for weaning and top 15 percent for IMF and Milk. Add to those numbers the fact that he weaned at 742 pounds and 1,427 pounds at yearling and it's easy to see why he was a talked about prospect. He was purchased by Lone Wolf Ranch, Coolidge, Texas for $7,500.

Fish Farms Pioneer Ranch, Newport, Tenn. paid $11,000 to own the top Charolais bull of the offering, Cooley Houston 9022S. The son of Ankonian Duke F220, shows impressive maternal capabilities with a Milk EPD of 5.2 and a Total Maternal figure of 20.3. In addition, he topped his contemporaries with an impressive 4.26 ADG.

Cooley Limestone 8046S6 also drew the admiration and bids of many as full possession and one-half semen interest sold for $7,000. Scott Tipton, Clarksville, Ga., and Arbor Hills Farms, Canton, Ga. jointly purchased the M6 Function 169 son. Limestone's popularity was largely in part to his impressive numbers, including a three percent Milk EPD, a 15.2 ribeye measurement and an impressive 121 ribeye ratio. Plus, he posted a whopping 4.20 ADG.
