18TH HERDBUILDER REPLACEMENT FEMALE SALE AVERAGES $2,086

The 18th Annual Herdbuilder Replacement Female Sale was held August 26th at Alabama Livestock Auction in Uniontown, Ala. The annual sale is hosted by Alabama Cooperative Extension and Alabama Beef Cattle Improvement Association. 2016 had one of the largest consignments and likely the highest quality offerings in the 18 year history. Eighteen consignors marketed a total of 340 head of bred heifers and 31 open heifers. Bred heifers averaged $2,176 and open heifers averaged $1,089. The sale gross was $773,800. The high selling bred heifer lots were consigned by Hubert Colvin of Moundville, Ala., and sold to Brentwood Farms of Brent, Ala., for $3,350. High selling open heifer lots were consigned by Joe Hardy of Atmore, Ala., and sold to Stephens Farms of Browns, Ala., for $1,275. Volume buyers were James Crawford of Thomasville, Ala. -- 94 head; Brentwood Farms of Brent, Ala. -- 49 head; and Tony Hale Cattle Farm of Hollywood, Ala. -- 35 head.
