    Young heifer bred

Don't feed her any grain or extra until she calves so the calf doesn't do a late trimester growth spurt/weight gain...... Sounds like a family of cows I have... they all seem to start to come in heat young and calve young if we aren't real careful to get the bull out before they should even...

    KY banning hunting of hogs

I think that @Caustic Burno has a trap and he gets 10 or more at a time in it... I think he said once he had to kill 100 a year to just keep the population stable... they reproduce so fast.

    Jersey

That's great... she will get it and sure, the sooner the better for you... and in the future, you may need to just put the rope around her and not cinch it up tight... just a "reminder" used to have one on one of the dairies I milked on... just laid the rope over her back... she was fine... no...

    Jersey

The ones that @Double R Ranch referenced are the ones I use also... the long ones as the others are meant to use with a syringe of sorts to infuse something into the udder... I have used oxy on occasion... Ebay, has the cannulas in stock... Fertile Valley Vet supply has them.... look up under...

    Daily Chuckle

Real smart... use cat litter for the fuel spill with a cigarette in your hand.....😦😦😦☹️☹️

    Jersey

Glad things went a little better... You might want to get some cannulas.... they are hollow tubes that you can stick up the teats... use on the tiny back teats..maybe 2 inches or so long.... the milk will pour out since they are up past the sphincter muscle at the end of the teat... If you get...

    Ivermectin wormer pour on

You are only going to get resistant worms if you worm regularly, use the same wormer and run the cattle on the same ground constantly where they can pick up larvae when eating the grass down short as the larvae are 90% on the lower 6 inches of the grass... IN MATURE CATTLE..... That is one...

    Ivermectin wormer pour on

We vaccinate the cows going through the chute for preg check... We do not routinely worm once the cattle are adults.. but they do get wormed then, if that is what we are doing... We use pour on and it was proven this past winter to do a good job... Short story, had some beef cattle getting...

    Sold Four Yesterday

We kept most of the heifers and sold every steer this spring... including those 2 nut cases recently. When we bring the group of 30 or so off pasture where we have normally run steers for the season, we will pick and choose who to keep since we have been culling more cows than normal... and NOT...

Since she never had a chance for the calf to suck, she does not equate "milking" with relief. Since she did not have the problems that the older cow had with the mastitis, why would you not let the calf suck ? , Pet cows are the worst PITA to get accustomed to milking. The nice "gentling"...

    KY banning hunting of hogs

It was @Caustic Burno in his thread "Hogs".... that said it about them scattering...

    KY banning hunting of hogs

@Travlr ... I was not referring to which were the more prolific... it was someone on here that said you could pick them off more effectively if you shot them from the end to the front; if you shot the "leaders" as they ran, then the next ones in line would scatter... whereas if you picked them...

    KY banning hunting of hogs

Wasn't it @Caustic Burno or some one of the guys down there that deal with the feral hogs... said to shoot them from the back of the group running towards the leaders, and they don't scatter like if you shoot the leaders... If I see any around here, and hope I don't... they will get shot...

    Sold Four Yesterday

Good for you.... the prices are scary... does make you think twice about keeping much... Sold 2 nut cases last week, were too small to go in the group a month ago... partly because they would run out the barn every time you went in to feed and wouldn't come back in until you were far away...

    first thing every morning

Mine brings them in the house and then proceeds to eat it and make a mess... at least it is usually on the linoleum in the bathroom... it's been moles/voles mostly... they brought in a mouse and let it loose and I thought I'd kill them... but a little bit later they had it again... and I scooted...

    Think she will make milk?

@MurraysMutts .... sorry for your situation... should've minded my own business... I couldn't see any scenario that you would be letting her go, a change in your life like that didn't even cross my mind. PM me if you want... but yeah, let them finish out these calves and I am hoping they will...

    Think she will make milk?

Okay, after all this time, I am going to get nosy.... WHY in the world would you want to find Bessie a new home????? I know that baby calves are high... but for pete's sake.... that cow has earned the right to be treated like a princess... How far are you from me? Maybe @kenny thomas is...

    Cattle vaccines

I have the same basic chart put out by Armor Animal Health..... Great to use for reference. I also like Cavalry 9 but it seldom available here..... Our vet is a proponent of MLV and I do NOT like them... so we differ a bit there... BUT.... nearly all my dairy farms use Triangle 10 HB as their...

    Cattle vaccines

Cavalry 9 also protects for a clostridium sordellil that Covexin 8 does not. Both cover tetanus. Neither cover "the pneumonias" like the PMH
