    Where is the end?

As per title of this thread. The end is when one starts to depend too much on chemical inputs that big companies keep jacking the price up on. 10 years ago here the price of 32 0 0 got to $700 per metric ton. At that time it cost $70 to make a ton.

    120 bred Brafords

One man bought the first load and then as his option stated, he took the next 3 loads for the same money. These pairs calved in a 45 day window. Uniformity sells.

    120 bred Brafords

We calve 130 to 200 heifers every year in 30 to 45 days. Yes it can be a lot of work but uniformity in calves sells. Add in the fact that a heifer that is a shy breeder will nearly always be a shy breeder. Late cows have smaller calves at shipping time and I am thinking a far bigger share of...

    120 bred Brafords

Exactly how to start out wrong, buy heifers with a 5 month calving window. If they can’t breed in 45 days they need their heads cut off.

    Fall pairs to the sale

    Where is the end?

I spent the winter buying $2000 steers and $1600 little heifers. There is a feed, vet, grass and freight cost added to that but there will be about $450 apiece left in my pocket when they leave in September.

    Good morning!

Took 4 cull bulls and a cow to Kamloops sale as there won't be one in WL until late July. Cattle sold well considering the crew neglected to pull them off feed in early morning. Came home with 6 steers and 3 older pairs that my buyer friend had stranded in WL yards. 1600 lb cows with 200 lb...

    Fall Market?

Grass them. If you genetics are good and grass is strong you could get to 1.7 lbs per day in your heat. I'm not there but grass and salt is all they need here to do that. A gentle old dry cow to keep them quiet is not a bad addition either. Did you take note what our 790 weight steers forward...

    Craigslist cattle

We played roulette with an unvaccinated part Jersey a month ago. Intranasal and Draxxin on arrival, she was sick two days later. We treated her with pretty much everything we could but she made her way to the bait pile and left us another orphan calf 3 weeks after we bought her.

If you are solvent enough to hang on all you need is time with cows or heifers. Steers are another story, only one way for them to go.
