    Teton Pass

I have always wanted to take a drive down the Nowood valley but not this trip. Going to Rushmore and then to Great Falls is going to be enough of a trip. Things the wife wants to see. I wouldn't mind wandering around the back roads of Wyo but that isn't on the wife's bucket list.

    Teton Pass

As I said we are just passing through Wyo. We don't need to make an adventure out of it. Miles to travel and some time restraints. And I live on a dirt road so no need to go out of my way to experience that.

    Where is the end?

A lot of variables involved. The best way to figures is what your projected yeild is in tons. The percentage of protein. A ton of 10% protein hay has 200 pounds of protein. Pounds of protein divided by 6.25 will give you the nitrogen taken up. A ton of 10% protein hay has taken up 32 pounds...

    Daily Chuckle

Not real funny. Sent a couple people to the hospital. I dislocated my right elbow 51 years ago today at that rodeo. It has grown considerably and the entire set up up graded from what I remember it being back then.

    Teton Pass

That is basically my route across Wyo. Going to stop at the Medicine Wheel State Arch site north of Ten Sleep by Hyattville. I have been there a couple of times and want to show it to my wife. I will take hwy 12 at least part of the way across Montana. Not sure where I will get on and off it.

Post your Best Cheapskate Stories Here!

Rodeo cowboys are famous for being broke all the time. But you still had to eat. Some of the dine and dash stories are really creative. If you were sitting at a table with a group of them and one at a time they got up and went to the men's room and never came. You best get up and pay your...

    Life Choices

I can think of many choices I made which altered the way life has gone. But quitting college to make my fame and fortune riding bucking horses was the first one that came to mind. You will notice how rich and famous I am. Had to Edit. The wife said dinner was ready in the middle of writing...

    Teton Pass

I found it. The number was sort of covered by the state line. I was planning on using the Rexburg to Alpine route. Then north of Jackson to hwy 26. No real destinations in Wyo. The wife wants to see Mt Rushmore and we have to cross Wyo to get there. Just taking back roads to see what we...

    Teton Pass

The article said Highway 22. I can't find a hwy 22 on my road atlas. We will be headed through that general part of the world in late July. Be nice to figure out where this is so I can avoid it.

    Crazy things can happen

The tarps we use for flood irrigation have a sleeve on one side. You slide a board or rail into that sleeve to hold the top of the tarp out of the water when forming a dam. One of my neighbors went to pick up a tarp that was not in use. He heard a rattler buzzing. He was flipping the tarp...

    Springs

I have 7 springs on my place. It is amazing how many springs there are out here in the desert. Five of them have been developed to supply stock water up in the hills, most but not all feed a water trough. One has been developed to supply water to the house. That first picture is a hole that...

    Loaded fruit trees

We had some heavy late frosts. No peaches or apricots this year. The frost missed the apple trees. They are loaded.

    Recommended weaned vaccines?

We give an Ultrabac 8, Bovasheild gold, and NasalgenPHK. They are all available in 10 dose packages. The cost of those is less than the cost of having a vet come out. Just do your best to match the pack size to your cow numbers and pitch what is left over.

    Fall pairs to the sale

I always buy with the theory of of never paying more than half of the price they will be worth the next fall if the market holds. So if kill cows are worth $2,000 now and the calf is going to be worth $1,600. If the market dumps as it will, at no more than $1,800 for bred cows this fall. The...

    Fall pairs to the sale

There was nothing in those I would want to keep. I questioned myself when I bought them. I don't buy fall pairs. I buy older cows who will calf in February March. I am wondering what those cows will cost this fall.

    Fall pairs to the sale

So I had 5 kind of ratty fall pairs I bought last October. They had been running with B's fall pairs. Well yesterday he gathered his pairs and split off the calves. So my pairs got a trip to town. They sold today, of course they split them to sell. I averaged paying $1,500 a pair last fall...

    Daily Chuckle

I knew two men who died of heart attacks after getting the shot. One died the next day. The other less than a week later. Both in their early 60's. Strong active men. Made my decision to not get the shot a lot easier.

    Where is the end?

You are not the only fool. I bought 2 older pairs 2 weeks ago. Paid $1,975 per pair. They got branded, an ear tag, and some vaccinations less than $10. Then straight to summer range that cost $0.75 a day. Even allowing some for the market to slip. The cows will hang up at 600 pounds for...

    Where is the end?

Yes without a doubt. But there is a lot of meat on those bones. I did the math on that cow I sold last week. $269 a pound on the rail. I told that to a friend who works for a feedlot. He asked how that works when fat steers are selling for about $3.00 a pound on the rail. I said people are...
