    Bull testing

Yes. They have a pretty small herd. He breeds the cows so they'll start calving in January, then moves his bull to the heifers. I check at least once a day after I turn out the bulls and note which cows they're either breeding or glued to their side (not in standing heat yet). Dates and...

    Bull testing

Dick was only 5 and I loved that bull. But another reason he was the last one we purchased from that breeder.

    Bull testing

Just good management! We test every year, but a lot of people around here don't. And end up with open cows. Neighbor to the north didn't test 2 years ago and not a single cow was bred. See, that's what can happen if you don't provide bedding during an epic freeze. One of my fave bulls still...

    Miserable weekend coming up

No kidding! One of my stepdaughters recently spent 8 days in the hospital and now has a PICC line so she can administer antibiotics every day for 8 more weeks. From a cat bite!!! Ferel beast bit through her knuckle and literally through the bone. Infection is in her bones & blood. And she...

    Miserable weekend coming up

I vicariously feel your pain. Mr TC has a tooth that has been acting up forever. Even had a root canal on it, but nothing works and it flares up every few months. He was on antibiotics when he shattered his elbow/broke his wrist and the hospital gave him some IV but didn't knock it out. Back...

    Oh, the drama!

I finally did with Bart. Ummm, where's his junk? Clyde was as simple as why is he peeing out the back? All of 2 hours after I tagged her. I have no legit defense.

    Oh, the drama!

Heifer calves on the left, bull calves on the right. The exception is when I eff up and mistake a heifer for a bull (first calver, Bart, and calf this year, Clyde). Always when it's -20 and no way am I taking off my gloves to cop a feel. It happens.

    Oh, the drama!

I waited a week to tag them because I thought they would bend their ears. They'll grow into them.:ROFLMAO:

    Oh, the drama!

Even Fizzy is getting in on the action. But back to Seltzer primarily a bottle calf and Tonic nursing almost exclusively.

    Foot rot

I believe Newport Labs is who my vet goes through to get an autogenous pinkeye vaccine. The one I currently use protects against Moxarella Bovis, Moxarella Bovoculi and Mycoplasma Bovis. This area of KS was hit hard with pinkeye a few years ago, before they added Mycoplasma Bovis. Most...

    Foot rot

My vet does the annual "farm visit" when she's out to BANGS/pelvic measure my heifers, which basically consists of clarifying how many head/pairs. But we have a long-standing relationship with our vet, so she doesn't need to literally go through the herd. I get the original VFD and my vet...
