    ? LA 200 injections

Thank you. She is a Texas Longhorn so we are not talking about a standard beef breed. I estimate her weight between 1000 and 1100. Reread the box and you are correct on the dosage. Internet sight that I have researched, said you could give LA 200 inter-muscular for pinkeye. That would be much...

    ? LA 200 injections

I have a cow with an eye problem, thinking pink eye and the next date the Vet can come in is next Fri. I got her in the barn and plan on squeezing her between two gates, put a rope around her neck, cinch her up to a post and injecting her with LA 200 in the morning. Done this many times with...

    ? Eye Problem

Here is what I am dealing with. She has also been pushing her head between the gate and a post attempting to get at the calf in the next pen.

    ? Eye Problem

Thanks all. It is not crusty. I took a couple of pictures and stopped by my Vet's office on the way to town. The Vet believes she may have had caked mud and rubbed it raw getting the mud off. Suggested coarse of action: isolate her, she already is, and observe for the next few days.

    ? Eye Problem

I just ran a couple of late season calves into the barn. One calf has a, perhaps 1" area, under one eye that has no hair. There is no discharge from the eye nor does the eye look abnormal. I am dealing with Texas Longhorns. Pink eye is virtually unheard of in Texas Longhorns so I don't think I...

Cost of boarding a calf & temperment of Jersys?

My son and grandson want to purchase 2 Jersy bull calves. The cost of the calves is $30 each. They will bring them out here and I will probably have to all the work. They promise they will help, but we all know how long that will last. I told them $40 per month per calf. I don't really want them...

    What is Line Breeding

Please clearify line breeding for me. I just had 3 year old drop the best looking calf we have ever had in 5 years. The cow and sire are out of this calf are from the same Dame, but the sires are of completely different lines. Sire and Dame of calf are half brother and sister. Is this an...

    Longhorn Fellas

Looks like a great traditional bull. I love the horn and color. I would like to reduce his hump (maybe because is head is down) and like to see more muscle in the hind quarter. I would also like a straighter top line. I know the topline can be controversial, but us Northeners like our topline...

?Taking calf from Mom & bottle feeding

Thanks all. It has been very hot and humid the past few days. It may have been heat related. It rained hard before I got the bottle ready. The cows and calf move to the back pasture. When I fed the cows in the front pasture, the calf stayed in the back pasture. I took the bottle down and the...

?Taking calf from Mom & bottle feeding

Thanks Alabama. We will see what other folks say. I don't want to bottle feed, but am tired of waiting until it is to late to intervene. Parinoid? Yes. I have always worried the first couple of days, but what is going on here is not the normal course of events. Would of rather had mom raise cain...

    Plug in Teat.

When we raised sheep, the ewe would have a waxy plug in the teat. On rear occasions, you would have to milk the ewe to free up the teat. Especially if the lamb was weak and couldn't suck the plug out. Does this occur in cattle?

    Calves of Show Cows?

This is the first year that we will be calving from halter broke cows/heifers. In the past, all our calves were born in the field from non broke cows. The calves, like mom, were timid towards human contact. I have removed the heifers to the barn. Is the timidness natural or is it learned from...

1st time longhorn heifer. Noticed tonight, while feeding, my 2 year old heifer had a clear discharge and it was the first that I noticed she was starting to bag up. I have been watching closely every day. She had a one time exposure with a due date of April 3rd. The final turn out would put the...
