    Constipated?

Nice calf delivered 48 hours ago. Yesterday I noticed the nice orange poop, but most of it was still hanging on the backside of the calf. Today looks the same with maybe a little mucus as well. Calf is alert and bouncy. Do I have cause for concern? Is it time for a enema?

    Current hay prices

I'm curious to know what people are having to pay for hay this winter. Right now I'm buying big rounds for 40 dollars that I have to bring home with my own tractor. When we stocked up this summer, small squares were 3 dollars each.

    Snowplow

I've been using the same straight Western 7ft.plow for almost ten years - and it was six years old when I got it! It has up & down, as well as side-to-side adjustments. Aside from the normal maintinence like yearly fluid changes and the occasional new hose, I've never had a problem and it's paid...

    Napa Oil Filters?

I've been using the NAPA gold filters as well. No problems to speak of. All in all, NAPA ususally puts out some pretty good products - better than some off-the-shelf parts I've used.

    98 Silverado electrical issues

Those are all excellent tips, and I thank all of your for sharing them. I should clarify that it's the headlights that keep dimming on me. Tonight I disconnected the electric brake - no change. Then I swapped batteries - no change. I checked the trailer lights and all appears tight. I pulled the...

    98 Silverado electrical issues

Lately when deiving my truck at night, I notice the headlights going dim and then bright again. I first checked the alternator and it was pushing 14 volts at high idle, but only 9 at low idle. I replaced it with a new alternator that runs at a steady 14 volts, but I'm having the same problem...

    Any opinions on Doboy Minerals?

Pretty much as the title states. Has anyone used Doboy/Domain mineral - specifically the Beef Cow free choice, and what do you think of them? Thanks!

    age of fertility?

Thanks for the help. I also noticed a post similar to mine that has been helpful. As for specifics, these are black Simmental calves. Probably around 400 pounds right now. They were born in late April.

    age of fertility?

I have an unrelated heifer calf and a bull calf, both 5 months old, in the same pasture. The buyer of the bull is wanting me to hold on to him for another month or maybe two before he picks him up. How close am I to the possibility of an unwanted breeding - or am I already past it? Thanks John

    Lutelyse time frame

I gave a cow a shot of lute Friday pm. It's now Monday pm and she's trying to ride the other cow in the pasture. Any ideas as to when I can expect standing heat, or is this it? At this point, the other cow is avoiding her almost completely. Thanks for any tips!

    Wood chewing

There are two of them, both about 7 years old, on 4 acres of good pasture. At this point in time, they are not getting any hay, grain, or sweet feed. They both get ridden or worked twice a week. One seems to be the chewing instigator and the other one follows his lead. They're having a heydey on...

    Wood chewing

Does anybody have some tips on how to get the horse to stop eating their lean-to? I tried the ""No Chew" to no avail. I've heard that mtor oil on the wood may do the trick. Any tips are appreciated!

    Another hay shipping question

This reeks of a scam, especially if it's the result of an add you had on the web. Don't be suprised if the check has a return address of Nigeria or is in excess of the ammount you requested. The buyer will kindly ask you to wire them the excess payment. Don't move a single bale off your...

    Fence problem

Thanks Bez, I should clarify. Speaking from personal experience, I can verify that the two hot strands work well. Using a one-to-five blinking tester, they run about a four. If I put my tester on the "cold" wire(s), I get about a one. Also, sometimes I'll feel a slight tingle when I open the...

    Fence problem

I have a five strand high-tensile fence electrified on 2 of the wires. My problem is that I'm getting a small charge on the wires that are supposed to be cold. I've walked the fence line several times and cannot find the problem. Has anyone dealt with this and figured out the cause? I'd love to...

Is there an effective homeade fence box?

I once spoke with an electrician who told me that there is a common misconception about the danger of electricity. People were always asking him about the worst shock he'd received. He said that of course 220v and 480v were dangerous, but that common 110v is the one most likely to kill you. It's...
