    woven wire and electric fence

2 to 3 feet like cfpinz suggested works well. I use it some on a weaning lot and other areas to carry the current where I want it. You could also use a single strand of barbed for a similar purpose if you don't want to maintain the electric wire. I find the electric needs to stay charged or...

    Round balers-twine or netting?

On your 847 let me suggest you use bar and chain oil to lube your chains. I was using 30 weight SA grade on our 853 but a neighbor suggested I use bar and chain. Never went back. With the 847 you probably don't have a monitor. Start your bale then hold tight to the left side of the windrow for a...

    Round balers-twine or netting?

Good points in the previous posts. I leave mine outside longer than most before moving but don't have much problem with the string. i do, however, use plastic twine. It doesn't rot on the bottom and is cheaper here. You have to be more careful to get it all picked up when feeding. Getting a bale...

letting cattle do the fertilizing ???

As someone else said, it depends on your situation. People around here do both. I feed a very few in rings. Most are unrolled. I bought an unroller in 1990 when we went to a larger baler and couldn't push them out by hand. It's still going after unrolling thousands of bales.I have had to have it...

    Sickle bar mower

I'm old enough to remember when almost everyone cut their hay with a sickle bar mower. Sure the Haybine was an upgrade most wanted but a lot made do for many years. Somewhat like the disc mower conditioner of today compared to the older sickle bar Haybine. Would I like to have a Discbine? Sure...

What to do, what to do?

In addition to tying tarps at grommets, I'd recommend throwing some ropes or twine across the top and tying to a tire or two on each side. Leave the tires off the ground. I think it helps keep air from getting under the tarp.

    Hauling to pasture

IMO hauling pairs would be best. Next would be take the calves and a quiet cow. The calves will stay with her. Your cows will be more satisfied separated from their calves at home than somewhere strange.

    Hay tarps

Maybe he got his property tax bill :) As an old cousin once told me: "You don't pay taxes on those tarps".

    Hay tarps

We used to tarp some hay when we were operating on a much larger scale. Tried a number of different methods to keep them on with varied success. One thing that helped a lot was to run ropes across the tarp to weighted ends on each side. Seemed to keep the air from getting under the tarp better.

    Hay unroller

I bought a Worksaver brand in 1990 that I still use.It has unrolled thousands of bales. It has also been welded on a few times but most was my fault.

    Cutting height and hay production???

Not trying to derail the thread but does anyone have any ideas on how to adjust my 488 Haybine to cut higher? I moved the skid shoes down all the way and have the pin stop in. It seems the skids stop the cutter bar high enough but then the angle tilts forward possibly causing in to cut on a...
