Best heirloom seeds for N Central Texas

I am wanting to plant heirloom seeds this year. All y'all from my area, what has been your experience and recommendations? Maters, taters, beans, squash, okra black eyed peas, peppers. May not do beans this year as I have been disappointed in the past couple of seasons with those. And have any...

What is this wild fruit tree North GA?

My folks had one little bitty tree but it put on like crazy every year. Mom never used them, but we had relatives that would come and get them. Makes great bread and other stuff. I never cared for them off the tree. I don't like eating stuff that's almost rotten by the time it's ripe. When we...

    Need some ideas on flowers

I am enjoying my first unmolested garden and flower beds in years since I got rid of the chickens. It's nice!

    Come on tomatoes!

Finally got out garden in. I have two vacant rows I'm debating about, but the green beans, peppers, 'maters, squash and okra are in. I'm putting in the black eyed peas after the green beans poop out, and they poop out early around here. Now I'm waiting on the rain, supposed to get some today...

    Those upside down tomato thingies...

Between the hawks and my own efforts to get rid of them, I no longer have chickens. I might get some again at some point, but at the moment, I'm looking forward to a chicken free summer. Maybe my flower beds can recover.

    Those upside down tomato thingies...

I didn't quite see how it would work. Seemed to me that the plants would always be trying to grow up and not just hang there. Besides the whole gravity thing... I'll plant mine the good old fashioned way, if I can get in the garden anytime soon... Rained again yesterday. Is supposed to be nice...

    Those upside down tomato thingies...

Do they really work? Steve's bugging me to death wanting to try a few but I hate to waste a tomato plant on something that's just gonna kill it. Besides me. I thought that someone on here may have had the experience last year and would care to report on it.

    Well it's that time

I can't get it dry enough!!!! Onions have been in for a while, but for every three days we have dry weather, there's two days of rain, seems like. I was planning to get out today but it was raining when I got up. I guess I'll see what this weekend looks like... :( I did get the front flower...

    Pecan Trees

All Dad's pecan trees were grafted. I have noticed that they take a long time to mature.

    Pears?

We had a pear tree growing up but they were the hard green kind. We still ate them right off the tree. Mom used to put them up like apples and used them in pies and preserves. I've never been one to put up preserves but my sister does it.

    Cantelopes and rabbits?

I have the same kinds of issues with chickens. I haven't seen a fence yet that will keep them out if they really want in. Mine will hop into the dog kennel to get the food.

    Garden Progress?

I'm just now getting blossoms on mine. Planted them pretty late, though, where my peas would have been if they came up...

    Swiss Chard

Oh, I'm sure they had that growing somewhere in the garden, too. I didn't look that closely and I wouldn't have known when it was if I saw it back then anyway.

What's causing blossom drop on my Impations?

Same color and same rate of watering. I'll spray today and see if that helps. Thanks!

What's causing blossom drop on my Impations?

I planted Impations like I always do on the front bed of the house. Nice and shady. I water the heck out of it. I normally have big cushions of flowers and did for a while. Now all the blossoms have dropped off and have not returned. What's going on? The plants are still growing and doing well...

    Swiss Chard

The way that stuff looks, I think I might as well go gather up some weeds and steam them. Ever ate sushi? How about that seaweed they wrap that stuff in? Taste anything like that? I had a neighbor when we moved to town and her mother was Asian in some way... She used to make her own sushi. I...

    Fruits of labor

Cucumbers. I have them everywhere. I send about two dozed in with Steve to work today. I have squash coming soon. Onions are taken up. It won't be time for maters here for a while yet. My beans and peas just didn't make. It's the ugliest garden I've ever seen. Maybe I can hold out for a better...
