    Spring Breeding, What's Everyone Using?

Connealy Dry Valley- Using on roughly 2/3 of our cows. Had a small group this fall and every single one is a standout. Plan to flush to him either this Spring or next. S A V Rainfall & Woodhill Blueprint- Using mostly on heifers out of lighter milking cows. Also will put some embryos in out of...

What happened to Musgrave Stunner ?

One of the owners posted this on FB in October 2020 "He was injured breeding cows last fall. We took him to CSU to have surgery to fix a blown hock. He is currently at Rocky Mountain sire services being collected. The vets gave strict no-mount orders after the surgery so they are having to probe...

    Angus AI sires being used

We have a couple Powerballs and are really pleased, albeit, they are still young. Should know more this spring when we wean.

Suggestions? Angus bulls that suit the North country

Not sure if he is available in Canada, but I would check out Connealy Dry Valley. They are big stout calves.

Fall 2020 breeding, what AI sires are you using?

Thank you for all the insight. Love a lot of what Shape does from a pedigree/performance/phenotype standpoint. He is getting bred to about 30% of our herd (some will be heifers) this fall. Hopefully I can report good news next fall.

Fall 2020 breeding, what AI sires are you using?

Makes sense. I assume you have gotten along good with all three of them? Any favorite?

Fall 2020 breeding, what AI sires are you using?

Thanks for sharing that story. He would have been an awesome bull to pick up! He wasn't on our radar but we ended up getting a credit with Krebs and didn't need a bull at the time. So we ended up using it on semen instead and split it between Synergy and Shape. Since you were interested in...

    Weaned/weighed a few calves yesterday Growth Fund/Playbook

Been really impressed with our Growth Fund March ET bull calf. We had two sexed heifer embryos that aborted (an environmental issue, not a genetic issue) that we are extremely disappointed about. torogmc81, are your Growth Funds moderate? We were expecting some height to them. Could be just a...

    Hoover No Doubt x Y69

Hard to give a good recommendation not knowing what the cow looks like, but just based on EPDs and pedigree, I would look at Tehama Tahoe or maybe Connealy Dry Valley (he is a no doubt son I really like). I have both coming this fall.

    Donor Cow Pregnancy

Thank you everyone. We had a successful flush Monday and we will AI her in a couple weeks (not turning out with bull as our herd bull is a son of her's).

    Donor Cow Pregnancy

We are fairly new to flushing our donor cows and had a question about getting the donor pregnant after we flush her (conventional flush). After you flush the donor cow, can you live transfer an egg back into her? Or is there some wait period due to the drugs, etc. before she can become pregnant...

    Prioritizing ET matings

My personal opinion would be to put in the ones you think give you the best chance to move your herd forward and give you marketable animals (can't really help decide on what specific mating, as such a big part of my appraisal is seeing the cow, her calves and the production record). There is...

    Preg checking after A.I.ing

We time AI every cow/heifer one time and then turn the bull out for 45/60 days. We then ultrasound preg check everything about the same time we ultrasound (IMF/RE/Fat) the yearling heifers and bulls. It works for us since we run both a Spring and Fall herd. We are able to do one big weekend...

    Growth/Marbling

I would take a look at GAR Sure Fire. Elite marbling, cw, re proven through actual carcass records. Also, has adequate growth and you can keep and make solid replacement females out of him.

    Grimmius Cattle Company?

Does anyone have an insight into what the plan is for Grimmius Cattle Company? They have purchased the high selling bull at Hoover Angus Farm, Spring Cove Ranch, Gardner Angus Ranch and many other notable breeders across the country just this spring. A little reading through their website and...

    MCC Daybreak Daughters- #14777016

Know Daybreak is an old bull. But wanted to see what everybody thought of his daughters in production? Also, what you need to keep in mind when you use him to breed? Understand docility and a larger frame should be kept in mind. Wondered if there is anything else to watch for? Our plan is to...

    Epic

We had an epic bull calf this fall. You can test just for NH (they give you an identification number instead of reg. #). That is what we did. No reason to spend all that money if the calf is a carrier. I would just call AAA and tell them you want to test just for NH and they will walk you...
