Random cow and her heifer calves

She was, she took after the bull in that regard. That picture of her as taken day before processing so she had been on full feed for a while.

Random cow and her heifer calves

Several years ago I bought a group of 3 Hereford heifers averaging right around 850 lbs at the Hereford influence sale in Stanford KY. One heifer was bat blank crazy and sold at the next available sale day. The other two were pretty good and bred and calves out. One had an awful looking udder...

    Names of Cross Breds

We’ve had several Herefords and most have been docile and fairly easy to work with. One particular bull though that we raised that was a calf of a purchased registered Hereford heifer bought as a bred heifer was kind of high strung. He wasn’t too bad or hard to handle for us, but anything out of...

    Names of Cross Breds

I’ve only had a few Gerts but they all been pretty tame. I agree it’s a whole lot how they are managed. We a neighbor that has a handful of Jerseys. We call the management style survival of fittest. They are wild as anything and a nightmare to have to work with.

    Names of Cross Breds

There was a CT member here that raised Santa Gertrudis and bred sone to Charolais bulls too I believe he is from Tennessee. From the pictures they looked like good cattle.

    Some fall pairs

I can’t imagine having a belted bull. Our tendency to like Herefords is questionable enough market wise, but Hereford atleast makes for a good cross and marketable calves from black cows. On one hand I’m not surprised that the belt bull sires a lot of the calves, kinda like the old sayings about...

    Some fall pairs

Here it don’t matter whether the belt is perfect or not they sell like a belt and it’s at a significant discount.

    When buying registered cattle

Yes who ever is in possession of the cow or heifer at time of breeding would be the one to fill out the breeding information.

    When buying registered cattle

There is a section on the paper that is filled out at transfer about the service sire of the cow it should include bull name and registration number and if I remember right the exposure dates or breeding date if it was AI service.

    Some fall pairs

Yes, I bought her as a bred cow calf pair last year. She had a big belted heifer calf at side. She had that black bull calf now a steer back in October. The heifer is due to calve this fall. I wouldn’t really seek out out to buy belted cattle, just thought it looked like a good deal at the time...

    Angus and what?

Holstein x Angus or Holstein x Hereford makes for some real good cows. I had several of those from my dairy calf raising years, bred them to Angus bulls and got some really nice 3/4 beef breed calves.

    When buying registered cattle

I recently bought a Hereford bull and got the registration paper within a couple of weeks or so of getting the bull. The transfer was written.and signed by the breeder after payment for the bull which is customary. Years ago when I was in the registered Charolais business, I can’t remember what...

My scenario, goes back to my Bulls thread

I'm still wondering what state this bull deal happened in and what kind of sale? How old the bull was at time of sale?

My scenario, goes back to my Bulls thread

It's not that I have a hard time believing a bull would fail a BSE, it happens. @wbvs58 is right the op mentioned the degrading testicles. If the bull was sold through a sale here it would have had a bse prior to the sale, not knowing where the op is from could be a factor if they aren’t tested...

My scenario, goes back to my Bulls thread

I agree with @wbvs58 I would think that some facts to back up the claim would be necessary. If the bull had a BSE for the sale, which I presume would be a likelihood, then what happened between the time of sale and present. Another exam and results should have been provided whether the buyer...
