Derrechio in Ill ??? Anyone heard of corn being flattened in Illinois?

We are in central IL close to Effingham and while we had 70 to 80mph winds with the gust front it only flattened the first row or two on the north side of some fields. The fields northern exposure determined the amount of damage.

Murray you and I are the same age - September of 76 for me! And ironically my first truck in high school was my dad's 76 Ford Supercab

    Redneck tree felling

We were playing with Tannerite a few years ago and thought it would be a good idea to blow up an old half-eaten soured protein tub from 150 yards. The putrid shock wave of fire-roasted sour protein made it to us before the sound of the blast. Needless to say we didn't have time to close the...

    Tyson plans to automate

We have a wholesale greenhouse that has historically employed a blend of men and women both young and old. In the past my most reliable (in terms of attendence and work output) employees were women between the ages of 35-50 and my most unreliable employees were any male under the age of 25.

As an employer, it's not the shortage of workers thats the problem. I'm sure there are plenty of workers out there but they just simply choose not to work thanks to the welfare state we have created. We used to have 60-65 local employees and now we have less than 15 local employees and 35 H2A...

Random pictures from this fall. (heavy)

Around here farmers will run a batwing mower over the stalks prior to raking primarily to cut the standing stalks off at ground level in order to gain more volume but also to make raking easier. The cows will nibble on a corn stalk bale but they are mostly used for bedding here in central IL. We...

    covid

I honestly think the Peeing your pants reference would be more closely replicated for Covid by referencing a fart graphic with a gas vs a liquid. Just my 2 cents.

    Covid observations

We have had a few local folks in our rural community contract in with varying results. The younger (35-50 years old) and more active they were the lesser the symptoms and the quicker they recovered. Two 75-80 y.o. friends had it but only one of them spent one night in the hospital for...

    CFAP

Thanks for the reminder. I got busy with work and forgot to apply. Dropped my printed application off at our local office this afternoon. They said 10 to 14 days and it should be deposited in my account.

    Land vs Stock Market

Using the 7% inflation number wouldn't the $500,000 property be worth over $3.5 million after those same 30 years the stock market investment was accruing at 7% plus not to mention the money that property would have made in crops or livestock?
