    Banding 700-900 lbs.

I sold out in 2019 and haven’t been involved in cattle since. Ive banded lots and lots of small calves, cut some larger ones but never banded 700-900 lb bulls. A neighbor wants to do his big bull calves and wants me to help. I told him from what I know a Tetanus shot two weeks before and another...

    Expected extreme heat wave temperatures

I dont know anything about dry heat, lived in the South my entire life. I do know I dug a trench (pick n shovel) and cut down a large tree for firewood Monday and Tuesday. It was mid 90s with humidity close to that same number percentage wise. It’s brutal but as long as I can remember it’s been...

    sick calf

Vet came this afternoon in pouring rain of course. It took him only about 10 seconds of listening to her lungs, double bi lateral pneumonia. He gave her Draxxin, Banamine and B complex. He said I caught it early and she should totally recover. Thanks for the good advice.

    sick calf

Her nose was some snotty and some coughing. She did follow mama for about a 1/4 mile to the barn and was somewhat feisty in the headchute.

    sick calf

If I can't get Draxxin do you all think I'm wasting my time with LA300?

    sick calf

I was able to get her and mama up into our small lot and gave her LA300 as that's all I have at the moment. I'll keep y'all posted.

    sick calf

Found a 5 month old heifer with a slightly droopy head and not as energetic as normal. She will run if you make her but it's obvious she's weaker and not feeling totally normal. All we have for now is LA300. Should I give her a normal dose for her weight and just keep an eye on her? Also, I...

    LA 300 refrigerated?

I have a 1 month old bottle of LA 300 that I for some reason put in the fridge when I bought it. Is it ok? It says to store at room temp and of course I knew that but put it in the fridge for some mysterious reason. My mind :dunce:

    bloat

The vet did a necropsy and it was bloat, vet said they can & will bloat on any grain hay. Thank you Tennessee! The doctor drained a ton of fluid off my knee and will have to again. Probably going to get a cortisone shot also. Fun times.

    bloat

That's kind of what I thought. I guess I won't be to involved for at least a short time and maybe longer. I injured my knee badly (lots swelling, can't even walk on it, very painful and no range of motion). Headed to the doctor tomorrow. My wife reminded me I'm 47 not 27 :

    bloat

I work PT 2-3 days a week at a large row crop/ cattle farm, about 7000 acres crops and 500 brood cows on around 3000 acres--I guess it's big by northern middle Tn standards anyway. I went in this morning and the owner said three good cows were all found dead from bloat two days ago and he thinks...

vaccinating calves (who does or doesn't)

Jim, I'm with you but not everyone vaccinates their children for everything like many do. We sell and eat the calves/cattle so, that also is gaining ground with many customers about what has actually been put into those calves/cattle. But I don't know how we could produce beef on such a...

vaccinating calves (who does or doesn't)

About how much does the cost per calf? Seems like many don't do it because of the extra labor and expense with the belief it's not really helping them at sale time.

vaccinating calves (who does or doesn't)

It seems like many guys in my area don't vaccinate at all if the wena on the trailer. BSE, that foster cow accepted the calf that wasn't her own--we're dang happy about that!

vaccinating calves (who does or doesn't)

    limping cow

The cow I'm talking about had a calf back on Feb. 11 and dropped another healthy calf 2 days ago! She is walking around fine now! My friend who's cow it is swears she had that calf back on Feb. 11 and now she had another one 2 days ago. The calf is healthy, nursing and following mama everywhere...
