    Cow calf to buying calves?

My pastures are overgrazed and I’m getting ready to sell 3/4 of my cattle to help restore things and cull. I have a bull and cows 22 head. I was thinking of maybe selling them all and buying weaned calves in the spring and growing them out and selling them the next fall. I should be able to...

Question on selling at sale barn (horns n testicles)

I bred my mixed angus (all polled black heifers) to a commercial polled angus bull. Good looking bull but I have calves growing horns. Got rid of him and got a registered angus bull. I have some calves I never got to Banding and some steers with little horns. Question is do you all...

    Cost of wood corral

I need a small corral but don’t have the time or help to do it myself. I want a 30x30 pen with a small catch pen leading to a 30foot alley. If made out of 2x6 boards and posts what do you all think a fair price for would be to have one built?

    American Aberdeen Angus/Lowline angus

People who have already committed to this breed will likely defend the pros listed on most websites in regards to their efficiency. I find it quite funny they omitted the truth. Either way to each their own I just would hate to find that niche market of homesteaders looking for one or maybe...

    American Aberdeen Angus/Lowline angus

It’s hard to find a bigger sucker then me. So I guess I’ll stick with the full sized angus I have. Thanks for the input :tiphat:

Do they have any value at the sale barn/beef buyers? Or are they like zebu cattle mostly for pets/showing?

    Cheap cows should I buy?

They could be Corriente I don’t know. I just wanted to breed them and if I didn’t like them sell them quick. I have a reg angus bull I was going to expose them to right away. Here is a pic to give you an idea of what they look like. At 150.00 each I’m not sure I can go wrong. 188

USDA/FSA loans.....can't believe how hard to qualify

I hear you. I tried to get one to buy property and the guy I had to go through barely spoke English. I dropped it about half way through from pure frustration not understanding this guy.

    Cheap cows should I buy?

Someone in my area is selling three cows. Look like cracker cattle for under 500 for the 3. They look fine in the pics not skin and bones. I was gonna call him tomorrow and see why they are so cheap. I can’t help but think something is seriously wrong with them. What do you all think of the...

    Small split pastures

Just means you allow a pasture to really grow up or even fully mature and then let the cattle eat it when there is nothing left in the grazed pastures. This can get you through a winter or drought without feeding hay if your stocking rates are correct.

Any supplements/treats out there that is ok for grassfed folks?

I share a bull with a family member. They grain feed him daily. When he’s on my pasture for breeding 90 days he doesn’t get fed at all. All pasture only and free choice mineral. Your buddy needs to relax. If that bull jumps the fence after someone else’s cows or fresh grass he’s going to wish a...

    Another horiffic day in NC!

Over here in FL we have the black vultures and turkey vultures. I have no problem with either. I saw a video on YouTube of black vultures chasing a cow trying to get at the afterbirth. If you ask me this is a learned behavior and they quickly associate these downed calves and the birthing fluid...

    Lost one

Buzzards are not vultures and vultures are not buzzards. What species of bird is everyone talking about? I have black vultures and turkey vultures I have never seen either bother a cow calving. I am thinking you are talking about caracara bird. Looks more hawk like. I have actually never seen...

    Electric fence question/opinions

I need to fence cattle out of a certain area and am not looking at spending to much. I like the high tensile electric but I don't see why it is necessary for my cows they aren't wild. Couldn't I just use pasturepro or t post and use conventional insulators? With that I don't even see the need...

Starting a Small Cattle Operation HELP!

Regarding the sheep.. remember you will have to protect them from predators and being 1.5 hours away this may be difficult. I keep sheep, goats, and cattle but I have to put the sheep and goats up at night or risk the coyotes.

    Diversifying with sheep question

I have st croix hair sheep. They do very well in the heat and will occasionally browse but all in all I would call them grazers. Best part is I have never wormed them and have not lost a single one. These guys are supposed to be very parasite resistant and my original stock is registered...

Heifer immune to turbo wire help

Yes I always check the beginning middle and end and my readings are consistent. I think adding a wire to the middle where she can't just throw the top wire over her back is the only way to retrain her. She also follows me and will exit and enter at all different points Including this just...

Heifer immune to turbo wire help

Yes even after a rain and she's soaked I hear it cracking on her and she doesn't respond.I thought the overpriced turbo wire was the ticket and now I feel like a fool. I guess there is no fixing it other than getting rid of her. Glad to hear I'm not the only one who has experienced this. On the...
