    Craigslist cattle

I hate seeing stuff like this. Newborn goats are born bigger than this bull calf. Let's put the so-called "healthy' calf hidden in the tall grass to cover his rib cage. Makes for a good cute picture....as if the calf is going to eat the grass. Priced incorrect...should be $50. to $100. in...

    Craigslist cattle

That's the smallest 3 year old angus cross cow i've ever seen.

    Craigslist cattle

$1,800. for an unhappy destroyed bull....he'll never socialize or breed well...he needs to go to a sale barn. It should be illegal to keep one cow or one bull alone....wish there was a law of two cattle min....Oh, and no neck chains....run good fencing.

    Bad advice?

That's the kind of sale barn i would like Dave....over here I buy a $2.42 for 400 lb calf and sell back a 805 lb steer for $1.80. Those numbers are Rocking!!

    Bad advice?

All sale barns I've been too near me, you do well in the 380 to 620 range....raise them longer and sell them at 680 to 850lb you lose money putting on that extra weight. I like to take in 450 to 590 lb calves.....720 lb calf prices suck. You get the exact same dollar wise sale for 500lbs as you...

whats driving cattle prices up so much

I agree totally..great statement. We've been lead into weak cattle sales for so many years we thought it was normal. For this reason small cattle producers cannot financially survive today....but could in the 1970's

I'm confused.....is his name "Serious Injury" or when you call him...he'll come and do serious injury?

    Sales canceled

I miss it dearly...it's no fun using diesel for a solvent. I wonder what people are using in their diesel vehicles when it's 100 degrees below zero? They must still have it up north into Canada.

    Sale barns

They'll need to keep digging the floor down...if they keep putting fresh toppings on...they'll have an incident in a few years. My Bull when he was younger at 1,500lbs he cleared 5.5'...with just one of his rear legs dragging behind.

Sold three head in West, Texas on 7/13/2023 (Results)

Yeah, i just learned about these bigger stockyard sales versus local sales....from talking with bird dog. I see what's happening now. I can see an opportunity for someone hitting up the local sales during the week buying these discounted 7 and 8's for $1.60 to $1.90 ...placing them temporarily...

Sold three head in West, Texas on 7/13/2023 (Results)

Correct...It was more like 14 months...sold him August last year during the wicked drought. He was born small (runt) from a heifer.

Sold three head in West, Texas on 7/13/2023 (Results)

I'm beginning to see, where their might be bidders buying in the 700 to 900 lb cattle range at West for $1.60 to $1.90 and then taking them to other sale barns for resale at $2.40. If West does have great prices on 7's and 8's...that should bring in more bidders so it should self correct itself...

I just need one 780lb steer/heifer to bring over $2.00 to become a believer (and change my opinion)...guess Texas is behind, maybe later October or next year will be better.

Love those prices on heavier weights CB...but Houston we have a problem...that's way too far down near houston. I guess in life, you settle with the sale barns you have. In my location I will never fatten out a steer or heifer past 550lbs....EVER. They are going in at 500 lbs. Need to do...

No way...what sales barn are you using Lucky?....680 to 780 lb heifers even a 877 steer selling for well-over $2. Whatever sales barn you're selling at consider yourself Lucky. I've now had three learning lessons over 750lbs in steer of heifers is BAD...I only got $1.60 to $1.90 max...and these...

Sold three head in West, Texas on 7/13/2023 (Results)

Great insights bird dog...with what you said things are aligning up now. I will be more diligent getting calves in at 400 to 600. Got low-balled on a 780lb steer last year that was 17 months old. I didn't know....back then thought more weight would bring a better price....which might be true for...

It just happened that the three Black Angus Heifers (all weened) i took in had different birth dates and weights...so it gave me some interesting test results on what sales barns are seeking. Note: all three heifers were equally well-fed, round bellies and healthy Tag 192, Black Heifer, Born on...

Who are these Big Buyers and where do the cattle go?

Wow!..now that i can see and makes total sense to me...trading cards with buddy-pro-cash incentives if the card exchange doesn't pan out equally.

Who are these Big Buyers and where do the cattle go?

Thanks Dave, that seals up two or three of my questions I had. I couldn't believe the big buyers (cowboys) we're working solo, cutting checks and climbing into their semi-truck afterwards. The way you explained it commissioned sales makes sense now..and competititon between buyers makes sense...

Who are these Big Buyers and where do the cattle go?

After attending a few cattle sales barns in my area Decatur and West, Texas...I enjoyed seeing how fast and efficient the cattle are run through...but I found myself staring up in the audience of buyers that you couldn't even see their heads nod, their eyes wink or fingers move off their...
