    Sold Four Yesterday

We kept most of the heifers and sold every steer this spring... including those 2 nut cases recently. When we bring the group of 30 or so off pasture where we have normally run steers for the season, we will pick and choose who to keep since we have been culling more cows than normal... and NOT...

    Sold Four Yesterday

Good for you.... the prices are scary... does make you think twice about keeping much... Sold 2 nut cases last week, were too small to go in the group a month ago... partly because they would run out the barn every time you went in to feed and wouldn't come back in until you were far away...

    Finally sold Molly's calf

We have sold over 40 steers the past 2 months, some we wintered over and weighed in the 7 wts... some recently that were 500+ that were weaned and vaccinated and all... just these 2 were plain stupid... Most get used to coming in the barn to eat at the bunk and don't do more than move out of...

    Finally sold Molly's calf

Glad you got him gone... Yes you could have done better if he was a steer... but what you got is what steers were bringing not too long ago... so you did good... especially at that weight... He looked to be in good condition. This is the time to sell ANYTHING that anyone is contemplating...

Shipped the 1600 lb young bull that had a scrotal hernia.... loop of intestine down into the scrotum along side one testicle... not common but the vet said he had seen one... could be fixed with surgery but not worth the cost with what bulls are bringing... He brought 1.35/lb... check was over...

    Feeder futures

The holstein dairies in this area have been doing that for several years. Breeding the top 1/3 or so of the herd to sexed holstein heifer semen, using straight holstein semen and beef bulls on the lower 1/2 or so of the herd so they get a calf... and as you said, using some for recips...

    Feeder futures

Not sure of what the purpose would be. Holstein standards means they have to have a white switch on tail and a certain amount of other white... the blacks are beef crosses and grade accordingly... solid black holstein crosses... usually with brown swiss giving them a dark choc or grayish black...

    Williams Lake yesterday

So with the conversion rate, they are bringing a little more than what we are getting here, or a bit more than here in Va...... in our dollar. Are your weights the same as ours or different... like imperial gallons and such in fuel??? A 550 lb steer at 480 is 2640....Canadian = about 1920 US...

5 wts here were bringing in the $3.10-3.40 range right along this afternoon. Son took a bull that had to be culled... Young bull had part of the loop of intestines slip down into scrotal sack and laid alongside testicles... when we took him in for BSE with another bull, they said he was not...

I think I am pricing cattle too cheap!

Triangle 10 , has 5 or 6 strains Lepto, BVD, IBR, PI3, BRSV, ... No pasturella, no vibrio, no somnus... and none have any of the clostridiums..(blackleg)... so it would be easy to see how they could have higher numbers... I imagine the 10 and 11 ways have vibrio and somnus and possibly a...
