If too full here they will dial it back enough to overcompensate. Sometimes not enough even then.

    Pay day

If you are solvent enough to hang on all you need is time with cows or heifers. Steers are another story, only one way for them to go.

Yes. Nearest neighbor to the west is 15 miles by road, south it is 40 as the crow flies and 70 by road. East is 70 as crow flies and 140 by road. North is likely 100 crow miles and 8 hours driving to get there. My fellow man is scattered some and I prefer it that way. Our ‘county’ I believe is...

    Williams Lake yesterday

Finished my grass heifer load. Some of 50 heifers we bought to breed. 6th time we have bought these heifers and they have always done well for us. They were empty as snakes and green as could be as usual.

Yes, cheaper to own a few dairy cows and make it worthwhile than do milk replacer.

Maybe Illinois cows are built differently than our low quality northern cattle. Most here are 50% dressed and lose another 40% to make burger. We just killed a 1580 lb cow and she yielded 455 lbs of burger and 15 lbs of tenderloin. Do the math.

    Exactly.

That cow will yield 360 lbs in burger.

    Heifers

Been the feeder cow fought, unless you want to feed them hard and sell white fat cows there isn’t much gain or profit in lb cows. I like the pricing on thin, breds there. They look like best possibility for profit in your area.. Having said all that, we are putting together 200 grass yearlings...
