    Corn stalk rolls?

I agree, blown up bales suck...i don't know what kind of wrapping "brand" they're using..but's it's a confirmed 1.3 wraps on corn stalk. Two years ago there was 2.3 wraps, more net wrapping when the bales encroached, or were at 4x6' and were a lot more stalker. I think with smaller 4x5.5' rolls...

    Corn stalk rolls?

They're doing 1.25 to 1.5 wraps where i am and moved them 2 to 3 times (once stacked mostly singular)...and they're in good shape...every 10th roll has minor stocks torn thru the net a little, one in 50 tear out a bunch (loss of roll)...but overall not much loss. Can you buy net-wrap from china...

    Cost of Hay

It's the most beautiful thing...seeing cattle graze fenced-off standing corn stalk land in winter. I don't know of anything more beautiful when it comes to winter and cattle.

    Cost of Hay

Well when it becomes not viable for most of us seeking corn stalk hay...then the farmers, hay producers can plow back in the corn stalks. I say $40. or plow them stalks back in. Years ago they never even baled corn stalk...nobody wanted them....we should go back to not baling corn stalks. Use...

    Cost of Hay

CB...what about corn stalk hay?...are you saying even corn stalk hay should be priced at $50. a 4x5/6 roll? I'll pay $40. a bale max, but I refuse to pay $50. for corn stalk. I'll grain my cattle over winter along w/ untouch grazing pastures over winter....before i pay $50. for corn stalk. From...

    I quit

I know....I'm thankful for deep-rooted weeds feeding cattle.... in our droughts. Might be the new norm for Texas.

    I quit

Basically what everyone else said on this thread...beautiful scenery, land and hay....but I liked the well-maintained tractor....I know it's maintained, tires are well-worn holding air.

    Texas drought

58" is a lot, you're lucky we only average 39" average just south of Dallas. Yeah, once cattlemen sell out and if they're older than 60/65 they probably won't be re-funding back-in with cattle (at these higher prices)...and then they'd be waiting a year or two years before making any calving...

    Texas drought

It is dry here in Texas...but with the early spring rains...we have a bumper crop of corn they're processing and cutting today as we speak. Lots of pasture forgage left for cattle. 2 to 3 months no rain is EASY and Common in Texas...it's when it's 4 to 6 months no rain it becomes rough & killer.

    This year

Well I learned something new never heard of ankylosis spondylitis CB...some say it's best to conserve their energy with less movement until they need to do tasks, others say keep moving and flexing daily is the only way to go. Everyone says: "Start by focusing on deep breathing and accepting...

    How’s your grass?

Cows been grazing since Feb 20th...when grass started...been growing grass like gangbusters here with all the rain....cattle can't keep up...I would need 50 more head...I'm sure that by September (after the normal July-August with no rain) they'll have it under control.

    Hay prices

We are getting a lot of rain...corn is looking very good here. You can hear it grow. I'm buying my 50 bales of corn stalk hay early...in september-october right after it's rolled-up from the field...whomever has the best prices gets my business, hoping for $40. will probably be $50. It's a shame...

Per acre land price in your area?

I'm right on the Dallas /Ellis county line in Texas...land off this frontage road corner is $30,000./acre...but I'll continue to be the poor dirt Farmer I am. Connection to Land and God is more important to me than money. There's 180 acres of flat land "prime" for residential housing development...

    Grazing Corn Residue ?

I'm "with you"...hay producer prices and profits are fine...I'm seeking a good solid strong hay supplier relationship....that's really been a weak area in Texas. I can see where a local hay producer coop is needed maybe FSA controlled...whereby cattle producers and horse lovers (crazied)...can...

    >LVR Those are good points you bring up. I know I should be more involved with my cattle sales until that hammer strikes. Time, travel, and inconvenience are the easy excuses. At almost 60, first generation cattle producer, I feel I'm late to the cattle party… it's tough to seed and build those...

I actually have the numbers right here at my desk...68 miles to Decatur and 45 miles to Athens...that's 23 extra miles each way. Reasoning: it's worth it to me as I did my research...after very careful customer reviews, cattle treatment, ownership and employee relations and sales stats...I...
