My logic says no. Never tried it though.

Not sure why more producers don’t do this

    Breeding bull with broken penis

Your bull likely will heal but he needs to be removed from the cows to accomplish healing. Dont expect anything this breeding season though. What is your current bull to cow ratio without him?

Anybody have any issues with wooden tongue?

Early treatment is best. Not always curable and I was always told not to give sodium iodide to pregnant cows but had a bad case of wooden tongue and after three treatments she calved first cycle. Ended up shipping her after we weaned the calf as she still had slight symptoms.

First time heifers. Time to think about breeding season.

The reason I never ai two yr olds is they are my highest risk group. They also are my highest value group. If I miss a heat or use semen that is of lesser quality now it is on her to make up for that. I want my 3 yr olds on time. I own good enough bulls to make it so that 75%+ of my 3 yr olds...

First time heifers. Time to think about breeding season.

They look thin to me for two yr olds. Cows can recover with good grass but young cows are still growing and now they are lactating and trying to rebreed. The last cows I want ai are two yr olds. I agree with gcreek in that you need Raise your own feed. The Herefords i have been around are lower...

    Spot the difference?

What is the source of copper and zinc in your mineral? Have you ever biopsied any livers of your cattle? Again I am not a nutritionist but am very curious.

    Spot the difference?

I would be less concerned with resistance in the stocker operation vs cow calf but if we have resistance in the cow calf side we have resistance in the stocker operation.

    Spot the difference?

My concern is resistance. Why not do a better job on prevention? Correcting Copper and Zinc deficiencies will do more good than all the vaccine and antibiotics you can buy and is a far more economical. I have visited with producers that are seeing resistance To the high powered antibiotics...

    Spot the difference?

I don’t mean to be an arse but am I the only one concerned about mass treating with high powered antibiotics? I think prevention is a better Avenue. I know environment plays a huge role in this but immune system response is tied heavily towards nutrition.

    Full term hairless calf??

I think your calf will grow some hair but it will never be close to a normal haircoat.

    Full term hairless calf??

I definitely think you have a hypotrichosis calf there. I had one last year sired by a well known ai Angus bull. I did report it to the AAA and they did some skin tests on it. I told them what I thought it was but since it was out of a grade cow and hypotrichosis isn’t in the Angus breed it has...

    Non-Hormone Treated Cattle (NHTC)

We used to sell all our home raised finished fats through the program. The last straw for me was when I had to sell a couple of loads to Tyson because Greater Omaha was booked full. Tyson required that we feed a probiotic that needed to be stored in the deep freezer. I said the heck with it...

    Sulphur Toxicity

If you have high sulfur water say 1000 to 2000 ppm do not supplement with copper sulfate. Sulfur ties up other trace minerals just like Ebenezer is telling you. It is a fact not a theory.

    Prime Time? (hereford)

Prime time had growth that everyone wanted. He also was very high birth weight and carried two defects that are currently testable for. The diluter defect was actually worse than the hairless because you couldn’t use them on anything with a black hide. In those days there wasn’t a dna test to...

    injured cow

From what you describe, likely a stifle injury. What previous posters said is good advice. Some bulls are less gentlemanly than others. This is another reason why bulls don’t need to carry extra weight. I like to watch bulls mount if they tend to be hard on cows they might not make the bull pen...

Better feed for cows till the grass comes on good ?

Just depends on what your other feed is. It is actually an expensive way to buy corn but if you need the energy it is necessary. What is your current body score on your cows that are going to supplement?

Our President calf lost his mommy today. Very sad moment for us at Branded

The fact she is left side up makes me think that she overcentered. I have seen some that fought hard to stay alive and I have seen some give up rather easily. Just really hard to understand sometimes. I am sorry for your loss Branded. Hang in there if this business were easy every one would be...
