One year we had a cow that had a sliced tongue, it was almost all the way across the width of her tongue. We took her into the vet, and the vet really didn't know what to do. We had him cut it off the rest of the way as there was not much holding on. She lost about two inches of her tongue. After that was all done she was not a happy camper, she really wanted to see someone. It took her a day or so to settle down before you dared get into the corral with her. We fed her hay cubes for several days and then turned her back out with the herd. Near as we can figure is that she got her tongue wrapped around some twine that was frozen to the ground. She darn near jerked her tongue off getting loose.
