••• We have a three-day old calf, born on feed-lot ground. We were told to give her banamine. My mother's no vet, and she was told to inject the banamine into the muscle of the calf's thigh area. So she did. Now the calf's legs pulled up and she refuses to put any weight on it. Now she knows that it was supposed to be injected into the skin. Are there going to be serious consequences of this mistake; will the calf be alright; and what do we do about it?

It will probably be ok in time.
Search the net for "beef quality assurance", under no circumstances should any shots be given in the thigh.

Banamine is off label given SQ.
You can give it IV and IM in cattle here in Canada.
It sounds like the injection hit the nerve in the hind leg. I've seen this in a cat when an antibiotic injection was given in the "thigh" area. Hopefully your calf will be okay in time, but the cat never regained the use of its leg.
