For 38 years Ascuaga has hosted the Hereford event, and this year he was honored as the Lifetime Cattleman by the Western States Hereford Association at the social the evening prior to the show.

On Dec. 1-2, 276 head of Hereford cattle were evaluated by judge Jim McDougal, Friant, Calif. Colyer Herefords, Bruneau, Idaho, dominated the bull shows and claimed champion trophies in both horned and polled events. The fall calf, C Maui Jim ET by DM BR L1 Domino 146 won the polled show and senior champion, C Hidalgo ET by CL 1 Domino 212M was slapped the horned champion overall. Hidalgo is co-owned by Hidalgo Hereford Ranch, Plano, Texas.

Hoffman Herefords, McArthur, Calif., and the Lee Hutchens Jr. Family, Fallon, Nev., led their junior calf champion, H Easy Deal 609 ET, by BR DM Channing, to claim the reserve overall title in the polled bull show. Hoffman Herefords' success continued in the horned show with numerous division and class winners and the horned premier breeder and premier exhibitor titles of the 2007 Western Nugget. Mrnak Hereford West, Gardnerville, Nev., won the horned best six head award and Frisbie Herefords won the get of sire award with a group by C Fantastic 2165.

      Colyer Herefords not only had the two grand champion bulls in their string, but also the grand champion horned heifer, C Notice Me Too ET by DM BR L1 Domino 146. This fall heifer calf is co-owned with Coyote Creek Land and Cattle Co., Savoy, Texas, and Gary and Kathy

Buchholz, Bardwell, Texas. Shayne Myers, Colusa, Calif., led the grand champion polled heifer to the back drop. BC Maid of Gold 2R is sired by C �S Pure Gold.

The reserve champion polled heifer traveled from Texas to capture the purple banner for her owners, Don Moler, Cheyenne, Okla., and Barber Ranch, Channing, Texas. DM BR Terri 646 ET is sired by BR Moler ET. The reserve champion horned heifer was exhibited by Lauren Schiermiester-White, Buffalo, Wyo. H Kathy 668 ET is a March heifer calf by C �S Pure Gold 98170. Upstream Ranch, Taylor, Neb., and Gene Boner, Red Cloud, Neb., exhibited the reserve champion senior and reserve champion horned bull, UPS Knight 4197 by BCD 721G Knight 4K.

At the conclusion of the polled show a lot of hard work and dedication paid off for Tom and Cindy Weimer of Weimer Cattle Company, Susanville, Calif., as they walked out of the show ring with four purple banners and the prestigious titles of premier breeder, premier exhibitor, best six head and champion get of sire with a group by TCW Full Throttle 8E 204N.
