City, Mo. � The American Hereford Association (AHA) has chosen to promote within and select Amy Cowan as the new director of youth activities and foundation. Cowan has served the Association in various capacities since she graduated college in 1998. Most recently she worked as the marketing and national shows coordinator, where she worked closely with Chris Stephens, former youth activities director.
AHA Executive Vice President Craig Huffhines says, �I can't tell you how excited I am that Amy accepted the job. I don't think we'll skip a beat with the growth and excitement in our Hereford youth program.�
As director of youth activities, Cowan will oversee the National Junior Hereford Association (NJHA), which is one of the largest youth organizations in the country with more than 2,000 members, and the Hereford Youth Foundation of America (HYFA). HYFA is a not-for-profit organization, which financially supports youth education, scholarship and research.
Specifically, Cowan will be mentoring youth, planning special events, organizing educational events and youth shows, fund-raising and retaining corporate level event sponsors. She will also be responsible for mentoring, advising and coordinating all activities of the 12-member NJHA board of directors.
Cowan was raised on a registered Shorthorn and commercial cattle operation in Quimby, Iowa. She graduated from South Dakota State University with a bachelor's degree in agriculture journalism and animal science.
In 1998 she began work for the AHA and Hereford Publications Inc., as the communications coordinator, then in 2001 was promoted to Hereford
World editor. In 2003, she accepted her current role as AHA coordinator of marketing and national shows.
She will begin working as the director of youth activities immediately.
