CHAMPIONS NAMED AT 2012 NATIONAL JUNIOR ANGUS SHOW

More than 700 Angus juniors and their families traveled to Louisville, Ky., to compete in the 2012 National Junior Angus Show (NJAS) July 15-21 at the Kentucky Fair and Exposition Center.

National Junior Angus Association (NJAA) members were in a �League of Their Own� as they exhibited 1,080 entries during the weeklong event that included more than a dozen educational contests in addition to the cattle show.

Mark Johnson, Orlando, Okla., judged the 637 owned heifers; Jeff Gooden, Iberia, Mo., judged the 258 bred-and-owned heifers, 50 cow-calf pairs, and 66 bulls; Steve Reimer, Chamberlain, S.D., judge the 69 steers; Jason Duggin, Martin, Tenn., assisted in judging the owned heifers; and Rob Starkey, Greenfield, Ind., assisted in judging the bred-and-owned heifers, and cow-calf pairs.

Cole Greiman, Garner, Iowa, showed the grand champion owned female, SCC Royal Blackbird GAF 112. The winning heifer is a January 2011 daughter of Dameron First Class and was first named junior champion � division 6.

Sydney Schnoor, Chowchilla, Calif., led the reserve grand champion owned female. EXAR Forever Lady 1414 is a January 2011 daughter of Dameron First Class and first won reserve junior champion � division 6.

Cameron Ward, Plattsburg, Mo., captured grand champion bred-and-owned female honors with W B PVF Lucy 1052. The February 2011 daughter of PVF Windfall SCC 9005 first won early junior champion.

Bryce Fitzgerald, West Grove, Pa., led the reserve grand champion bred-and-owned female, Cherry Knoll Richta 1159. The June 2011 daughter of Connealy Final Product was first named intermediate champion.

Matt Purfeerst, Faribault, Minn., won grand champion bred-and-owned bull honors with M J P Purfeerst Lut 104. The February 2011 son of Plainview Lutton E102 first won junior champion.

Michael Vajgrt, Newhall, Iowa, led the reserve grand champion bred-and-owned bull. Vajgrt's Classy Lad 563 is a May 2011 son of Dameron First Class and was first named intermediate champion.

Kolby Shepard, Perkins, Okla., showed the grand champion owned cow-calf pair.

C C A Countess 096 is a February 2010 daughter of Sitz Upward 307R, and first topped the two-year-old division. An April 2012 bull calf sired by EXAR Titelist T011 was at side.

Cory Watt, Iva, S.C., led the reserve grand champion owned cow-calf pair. Champion Hill Emblynette 7571 is a January 2010 daughter of S A V Mandan 5664 with a February 2012 daughter of Skyway Hills Basic Power 20 at side. The pair first won reserve champion two-year-old pair.

Blake Boyd, Mayslick, Ky., claimed grand champion bred-and-owned cow-calf pair with Boyd Abigale 0001, a January 2010 daughter of SAV Pioneer 7301. A February 2012 heifer calf sired by Connealy Consensus 7229 was at side. The duo first won champion two-year-old cow-calf pair.

Bryce Fitzgerald, West Grove, Pa., captured reserve grand champion bred-and-owned cow-calf pair with Cherry Knoll Fern 9072. The September 2009 daughter of MCATL Reachout 836 had a December 2011 daughter of Connealy Final Solution. They first won reserve two-year-old cow-calf pair.

Garrett Gardner, Cherry Tree, Pa., earned grand champion steer honors with Buchanan's Pickles N198. The March 2011 is the son of Champion Hill Fullback 380.

Ryan Nolt, New Holland, Pa., claimed bred-and-owned grand champion steer and reserve grand champion steer with Triple N Black Label 4081, an April 2011 son of Plainview Lutton E102.

Katy Satree, Montague, Texas, earned reserve grand champion bred-and-owned steer with DAJS Ante Up 204. He is a September 2011 son of DAJS All Star M243.
