Charolais cross show steer

Post by heidituynman » Wed May 20, 2020 2:43 pm

We just bought a steer for FFA in Galveston county. He looks pretty good but is a smaller one out of the herd that came in this morning. Birthdate is 9/28/19 and weighing 580. This one is a Charolais cross with what I believe to be Brahma and Hereford?? He is out of Charl by Griago. Has anyone heard of the sire or dam?
I am also wondering what our target weight should be for show and sale in mid January. I am excited for the year ahead!

Showing where? Galveston County fair is not until April.
I run sale-barn cattle.

We feed a lot of f1 char / black angus cattle. 1,450-1,500lbs by Feb 1 depending on his frame should be a reasonable goal.
Never fear them, but ALWAYS respect them.

The people hosting the sale/show should have that info as well as other particulars available. Most certainly so should your FFA advisor.
