My name is Johan, I am a South African white male working in Kazakhstan on temporary basis as mechanical engineer.
Back home I am also farming as a hobby. I want to startup cattle farming in Kazakhstan for meat production. It is still early days but I am exited to be part of this forum and sure that I will learn lots about cold weather farming from all of you.
I am in Astana the capital and we 500km from Russian boarder
winters are long - 5 months at minus 30 C to minus 40 C. summers can get hot to 35 C
Kazakhs keep their cattle indoors over the severe winter periods.
for now I would appreciate to receive general comments and advice on options of breeds we could consider and other considerations in general.

In regard to cattle, there are breeds endemic to that area. I would use the breeds currently available in that region.
