Election Results of Interest:

What is going on with O'Rourke giving Cruz a tough race in Texas?

A Democratic Governor in Kansas!!! I didn't think that was possible!

The most powerful institution in Government is Democratic - the People's House. The most powerful budget institution. Plus, tremendous investigative powers. It is going to be entertaining. If Democrats are smart, they will dump Pelosi. Going to be interesting.

School districts have gone insane here. Two wanting bond money. One for a new school the other wanting improvements like escape windows in classrooms and ventilation for fresher air for better classrooms. County wanting a 2% sales tax increase for road improvements. They had money to add a $5 million addition to the court house but need a tax increase for roads.

They’re trying to add another’s elementary school here. We’re at absolute capacity, but I think the Halloween costumed idiots screwed that up.

With the interwebs, I think we need to reconsider how we govern (maybe a chance for more direct-participation by voters); also consider requiring full disclosure as to opinion pieces versus (attempts at) factual pieces, with fines for misrepresentation. Also, more civics and critical thinking taught in schools. No one should be discounting everything "the media" says; no one should be believing everything "the media" says.

Texas has had a wave of outsiders move in in the last 5 yrs or so and I guess they don’t share our values. The DFW area is growing so fast new neighborhoods were closing on houses faster than people could decide on which half built house they wanted. I’m really not sure why people choose to leave a place because they don’t like the way it’s being ran but try to make the new place the same as the old. Outside influences played a big role too.

Demographics drives elections. IMO demographics in the US and the entire world are going to be interesting to watch in this century. The population is becoming more cosmopolitan. Races are melting into one. The dynamics over time are going to favor socialism whether you like it or not. My advice is not to have a heart attack over things you cannot change.

There are specific demographics even here on this board that already welcome their socialist overlords.

Just tore up Article 1 with that statement.
It’s freedom of the press your supposed to be smart enough to wade through the propaganda. The father of the constitution Madison wrote Article 1 for just that way of thinking over 225 years ago.

[sarcasm]That old outdated piece of paper?
Pshaw!....
It, Magna Carta and Code of Hammurabi should have been burned, banned, forgotten and outlawed centuries ago.....

Yep you got freedom of the press and speech over religion.
Madison a Presbyterian was upset Methodist and Baptist ministers were being jailed for what they were printing in flyers and spoke from the pulpit. There was another revolution going on called the Great Awakening. Madison thought this a terrible injustice even if not agreeing with their theology.
That’s the reason they are all rolled into one.

Unless said "journalistic" piece is riddled with falsehoods. Then it becomes up for libel challenges, which can be difficult to prove in court depending on what is being said. But I do have a problem with some stuff that is hitting the internet, such as Ted Cruz's father being involved with the Kennedy assassination. There should be a way to filter out that stuff. However, I can see that becoming a "freedom of speech" issue vs. "freedom of the press" issue as long as it's never purported to be spread by a "news" agency.

Look at the red/blue map of Texas. San Antonio, DFW, Houston, The Rio Grande Valley and El Paso all blue. The other 99% of the state is red . All extremely liberal. Luckily a lot of level headed country folks still exist. Unfortunately with a name like Beto O'Rourke he got ALL of hte mexican and irish vote. :lol2:

"Originalists" only like "originalism" when it suits them, in my experience. Coined a nonsense word just for themselves, too.

"Just tore up Article 1 with that statement.": Nah. Just saying the lines between journalism and op-ed/talking heads/bloggers have been so thoroughly erased that I for one would appreciate knowing when a writer or TV person is agreeing to be bound by journalistic standards, and when they're not. That's pure freedom of the market--the right to know what you're buying. Label manufactured meat as such; label opinion pieces as such (or vice versa), and let the market sort it out. Just because you (proverbial you) like your facts and opinions mixed together in a congealed inedible indeterminate mass on your dinner plate doesn't mean I do. :yuck:

Spoken like a true blue that sticky constitutional document is only for when they agree with it.
Your Way is censorship not freedom of the press no matter the garbage that’s printed. Again editorial and opinion pieces are just that, your supposed to be savvy enough to know the differences. Freedom of speech is just that. I have the right to say whatever you have the right to be offended. That’s as far as your rights go Bonjour.
You are advocating the harassment of people that don’t agree with your thought processes.

Fox News did something last week that drove the last nail in their credibility. At a Trump Campaign "performance", Trump invited Shawn Hannity to come up and address the crowd. He did! And even pointed to the back and said the other media outlets were all "fake news".
