Which vaccines to give by Intra-Muscular method?

Postby garyws » Thu Aug 30, 2018 4:11 pm

Which vaccines or should I give by Intra-Muscular method? Also, which drugs should be given by the subcutaneous method? I am trying to ween myself off of depending on my vet for things I can do for myself without causing a problem for my cattle. Please advise. Thanks.

The package insert with the vaccine should tell you how to administer and the proper dosage.

Make friends with your local County AG Extension Beef Specialist & take a BQA class. Last but not least, establish a better relationship with your current Lg animal vet or find one who your more comfortable with.

Bears repeating. Always read the label! For example, Covexin 8 can be administered IM or SQ but most vaccines I administer are SQ only.

I would like to add one more thing here. As per Ron, you should go a little heavy on the antiparasitic to insure a complete kill and avoid resistance problems in the future. (*Note, any advice I might give, I have learned here from other knowledgeable sources)

For example, Covexin 8 can be administered IM or SQ

IMO, in spite of exemplary protocol and given via Sub Q the worst offenders for tissue damage are the assorted clostridial vaccines. Always makes me cringe when any product is labeled IM or SQ.

Lytalyse HighCon is relatively new, only 2cc but also IM or SQ. Even Vitamin B Complex is IM recommended but can be SQ as directed by a vet. Regardless of the instructions either/or on the label, if I'm not familiar with the product I call my vet.
