Stocker cow operation 10 acres in Oak harbor Wa

Postby tcam318 » Sun Jul 15, 2018 1:52 am

Hello I'm am looking to start a stock cow operation on 10 acres in Oak Harbor, WA. I'm looking for advice of how many 500 to 900 pound calves I should be able to forage per acre.

I don't know your country but if you were able to run 1 to the acre I would think that would be exceptional.

No one can answer that without seeing your land. Some land in the same county can handle 1/acre or 1/10 acres - grass, weeds, what kind of grass??? lots goes into the answer. Will you be sub-dividing so that you can do rotational grazing? Makes a big difference.

A good starting point...contact your county livestock extension service office and engage the livestock/pasture specialist.
