cattle scale weigh cage
I am building a weigh cage around my platform scale. But am in need of some info on how long I should build the cage/chute. The plate form is 7' 3in. I was thinking 8.5 feet. The cattle will be standing in the weigh cage without being in a headgate. So how long should I make it? thanks for your time

That sounds about right. Just make sure the unweighed space is in front of the cow or you will always be having to get their back feet onto the platform.

thanks for the reply wbvs58. I am surprised I only got one reply??? I guess I should ask my question a different way.
How long should a chute be without having a cow/bull sticking its head thru a head catch

Re: cattle scale weigh cage
I put load bars under my chute, which is just short of 8'.
I wish my brain could forget what my eyes have seen.

About 7 to 7 1/2 ft. Your cow size matters . If its to long they move back and forth and bang the rear gate. Some scales also have a hard time locking on to a moving animal.
I am like slick. I like scales under the chute.
