Post by shawnsweeney » Fri Dec 28, 2018 8:52 am

He's fine and get him started on 18-20% texturized calf starter feed if you haven't done so already.

Jerseys can go from one to another easily, sometimes I think it is just their smaller size and not processing the milk regularly. If he is acting fine, and not refusing his bottle or anything, as Son of Butch said, get him eating a good calf starter and get him started on some good grass hay. The hay will help get his rumen to develop and it will firm up his manure. Calves on cows will start to eating some grass and hay because momma does it, and it helps to get their digestive tract to develop so that as they get older, they will be able to fully utilize the roughage.

Just a reminder - Jan recommended GRASS hay - not alfalfa.

What color is the 'poop'? Could it be that it is getting too much milk...
