Tested Bull Sale 6/6/19

Post by Son of Butch » Thu Jun 06, 2019 11:37 pm

I missed this year's tested bull sale today at Zumbrota Mn sale barn, so can't comment on pedigrees or quality other than what is provided on their website.

163 semen tested bulls sold to a standing room only crowd.

2 yearling registered black angus bulls tied for high of the day at $2,200 hd
Top 2 & 3 year old bulls $1,950
Top Simmental 1,850
Top Hereford 1,800
Top Shorthorn 1,735
Top Maine-Anjou 1400
Top Black Limousin 1250
Top Red Angus 1,225
Black yearling bulls of serviceable quality 1,100 - 1,825 hd
Light weight and mixed quality 650 - 1,075 hd

No Charolais this year?
Talked with a registered Charolais breeder last year who was disgusted by prices received for
his A.I. sired bulls and he told me he wouldn't be back.
(Later talked with his neighbor about his operation who said,
"He always thinks his shxt is chocolate ice cream and everyone should be asking for a spoon.)

Terrible prices IMO. No SimAngus bulls up that way?

Unless they are registered, bulls are just listed by color, but will announce supposed breeding.
Black yearlings 1100 - 1825

The best registered bulls have already been sold off the farm.
At sales like this, late in the season, these are the left overs that didn't sell private treaty.
But out of 163 bulls sold, from past experience there are usually a dozen really good buys.

mixed quality = craigslist quality... 650 - 1,075

Pretty late in the year for a bull sale. Here the bull sales are in February and March. Bulls were turned out a month ago. Anyone buying a bull now is looking for a quick replacement for one that went down for some reason.

The last spring sale I'm aware of and very late even by Minnesota/Wisconsin standards.
