From heartwarming to hoax in less than a year?
Officials say the viral story of a homeless man's selfless act -- giving his last $20 to a stranded motorist -- was actually an elaborate ruse designed to enrich a scheming threesome, who pocketed nearly half a million dollars in donations before a squabble over the money unraveled the plot.
A 2017 tale about a Philadelphia man's compassionate gesture was, in fact, only the basis for a scam, according to a complaint obtained by NBC 10 Philadelphia. New Jersey couple Kate McClure and Mark D'Amico publicly posted about Johnny Bobbitt's alleged good deed and started a GoFundMe campaign to "thank him." But the group's greed ended up doing them in, officials said.
Investigators claim the three deceived donors by preventing them from gaining information "that would affect their judgment about solicited contribution to that fundraising effort," the news station reported. Officials said the trio is expected to face charges, which will likely be announced Thursday.

The do gooders that gave money to that obvious trio of grifters ought to be sentenced to 40 hrs picking up trash in the median of the New Jersey Turnpike.

Here’s a true story for you
Guy I know from a fishing forum is a 600 lb cab driver. Always asking for favors. His brother just died. Within 5 hours of his passing, the cab driver started a go fund me. To bury him in the family plot. Which was already paid for. He flew first class to New Jersey, and is flying first class back.
He raised over 8 grand

gofundme should be charged too as they took a 10% split... and 10% of all the other scams pulled using gofundme.
object to split 100k 4 ways 30k each and 10K to gofundme
Problem: scam was too good... 14,000 people gave $20-$50 = 400k and story went national giving low grifter on the
totem pole a platform on which to complain as he received only 75k and the 2 partners controlling the account 142K
each. He should've kept his mouth shut. He got his 30k originally agreed upon and 45k to boot.
To think this was the 1st or last scam using gofundme is naive.
It's just the one that caught lazy reporters attention who were also fooled and looking for heart warming follow up story.
