When we burn we disc a 12 lane around the field . I also put water in my 200 gal. Sprayer. Incase I need it . We lost a fire last year .had a small dead tree with dried leaves on it .10 foot or so . Tall. Leaves caught and wind was blowing about 8 mph . Blew burning leaves across the dirt path...
I'd rather eat a steak from. A steer that ate chicken poop . Than cereal with roach parts in it. If people really new what's in their food they would freak . There is a certain amount of by products allowed in all of our food .
They weren't on the pasture yet. I fully understand how winter pasture works . I used to run between 150 and 250, short and solids / broken mouth cows a winter . that particular time I planted late and was haying.
I haven't seen anyone feed it in over 30 years . I figured it was outlawed . Surprised it isn't since its animal by product. I guess he used it like people use the protein tubs now .just to give them a boost.
My grand dad used to mix layer litter with rice bran .. once the cows started eating it he would just put it out with out the bran . Got to make sure it stays dry .high in nitrogen/protein .
This pond was the only one I had left that still had water it was already about 3 feet low probably only a quarter acre or so . I talked to the volunteer fire dept this evening. They put a truck full in the pond . I'm bringing a 1000 gal tank tomm morning . They said they would fill it for a...
I try to keep a years worth of hay in the barn . When we have a good hay season I move the old out and stack the new in the barn . Feed the out side hay first . If I would have known how bad it was going to be I wouldn't have sold any hay last year .
Looks like its gonna miss us again .got to the pasture today pond was dry . Look s like the choppers took all my water to bad they don't call and let you know . Good thing I check my cows every other day .really would be pi$$ed if my cows died because of that.
My cattle don't eat it at all . I won't put it out anymore . I tried the recommended way and feed it year round . Started in august like the dealer told me to and fed it through one winter . Was pretty expensive . The cows I had a problem with were some poor butcher cows I picked up cheap to...
So it only starts to taste bad after so much is consumed? If it taste bad enough to make them stop eating then it should be bad after the first lick . I guess they have come along way with liquid feed in the past 8 to 10 years
In my experience nothing will limit a starving cow from eating . The limiters are usually high amounts of urea or salt . the urea will kill the enzymes in the rumen if to much is eaten . what I said before about them over consuming and scouring is from experience . I've tried the "good " as well...
