Thought I'd share an update on the calf - he's fixing to be weaned. These shots were taken about a month ago at 7 mos old. He has his angles, and overall still looks good. Hasn't been given any extras, just salt/min. hay, and cake once a week.
Got him second weekend. Bottom jaw estimates put him at least at 4.5 which is all we can ask for around here. Passed on some marginally better deer that appeared younger (knowing full well I probably won’t see them again.)
*didn’t have anyone with me for a better pic.
My grandad would’ve said the old brick pits were traditional Texas bbq.. not many folks run them anymore. Idk if they’re considered direct or indirect but the meat racks are much higher over the coal bed than a grill. Id consider it all bbq, just a different style of smoker.
TwoByrds, thank you for sharing and for your take.
That’s certainly my dilemma.. with my numbers and lack of reputation I didn’t intend to breed and sell seedstock at all let alone bulls. But, I’m definitely going to let him get to weaning to decide any further. Looking forward to seeing how...
Waihou, thank you for sharing. Great looking ladies.
Seems obvious when you put it that way regarding heifers… always thankful for a fresh take.
Btw, the Mrs and I honeymooned in NZ, north and South Island. Beautiful place, great folks.
