for females I use a larger tag and put it center between the ribs. steers get a small tag and I try to put it out on the end a bit so I can read it on the trailer for my notes. LOL

Different problem. Fence out means you are responsible to fence cattle out of your property. And it means ADOT is responsible to fence cattle out of its right of way. Same with Union Pacific. Of course I will fix a hole if I see it, but I'm not buiding 3 or 4 miles of fence for the state. I...

no, I don't think building 2 to 4 miles of fence in the rocks a few feet away from a fence that the state is supposed to maintain is a good use of my limited resources.

nope, not in Arizona except for a few very small declared areas. this is a fence out state, you are responsible to protect your own property and if you damage or kill a cow you are responsible for that too.
