A nice sunny day greeted the largest crowd to date at the 13th Annual Yon Family Farms Performance Tested Angus & Charolais Bull Sale. The sale was held at the farm in Ridge Spring, S.C. on February 15, 2003. A total of 116 bulls sold, with 114 yearling Angus bulls selling for an average of $2,385, and two yearling Charolais bulls averaging $1,650.

The top two selling Angus bulls sold for $4,500 each. Lot 1 was a powerful son of SAF 598 Bando 5175 and sold to Riverview Farm (Jeff and Betty Pitts) from Little Mountain, S.C. JMK Farms (John and Michelle Koon), located in Ward, S.C. selected Lot 47, an impressive son B/R New Design 036. The next high bulls commanded a price of $4,100 each. Beechwood Angus in Abbeville, S.C. chose Lot 23, sired by B/R New Design 036 and Harrill Brothers, Shelby, N.C., chose Lot 10, a tremendous son of GMAR Hi Spade 039. Rounding out the top five was a BCC Bushwacker son, Lot 5, who went to Davidson Farms, Duncan, S.C.

Over 54 percent of the bulls sold to repeat buyers from the Yon performance program, with eight of the top ten selling bulls to repeat customers. Bulls were affordable throughout the sale with over 69 percent of the bulls selling for $2,600 or less, with the vast majority of the bulls being sold to progressive commercial cattlemen for use in their programs.

As an added attraction to the sale, the Yon's also sponsored their Open House, offering special deals on Powder River equipment, Tru Test Scales, and Stafix Fencing, feed, minerals, and animal health products.

The sale is held annually on the third Saturday in February in Ridge Spring. You may contact the Yons to be added to their mailing list at kyon@pbtcomm.net or (803)685-5048.
