Franklinton, N.C.

January 31, 2004 completed the final chapter for one of the most successful Gelbvieh programs in the southeast. The Hill and Dale Gelbvieh Herd Dispersal was one of the best attended events of the southeast in over 10 years. A large gathering was on hand Friday to preview the sale offering and enjoy the fine social that was provided by Ingrid Volk and staff. Sale day drew an attendance well over 250 from across the country. The quality offering sold into fourteen states.

Topping the sale was Lot 39, HAD Sugar 446J. This outstanding, foundation donor by Jaguar out of Miss Meg 63F sold to Triple Diamond Cattle Co. for $12,000. Sugar was heavy bred to Polled Midnight and had a black, polled heifer calf shortly after the sale. Quality in this cow family was deep and well received with Lot 43 selling for $2,900 to Pleasant Oak Farm and Lot 109 selling for $3,000 to Honey's Pride Inc.

The next high selling female was Lot 1, HAD Anneliese A018. This Hill and Dale matriarch is the dam of HAD Knockout and HAD E Square. Anneliese sold for $10,100 to Gelbvieh Bar None Ranch and Eagle Pass Ranch. She is sure to be an impact player for their outstanding programs.

Lot 75, EGL C151, caught the attention of Circle S Gelbvieh of Canton, KS. C151 is best known as the dam of EGL Gadget who sired the national champion EGL Guido. C151 provided a super set of ET calves by HAD Knockout. The final bid on C151 was $3,300. Circle S also picked up Lot 139, the full sister to JCGR Bar GT Einstein. Einstein served as senior herd sire for the Hill and Dale program.

Volume buyer for the day was Larry Clark from Kentucky with 16 head. Waitus English III purchased 14 head at the sale and later purchased two herd sires at the farm. Gregory Todd Hodges purchased 9 head and is now a new Gelbvieh breeder.
