Buyers and bidders from Argentina to Texas and many points in between traveled to join the Reznicek family at the Cow Creek Ranch Bull Sale and Customer-Owned Commercial Bred Heifer Sale near Aliceville, Ala., on October 12 & 13, 2007. All tallied, more than 200 registered buyers came from 13 states and from the countries of Argentina and Uruguay. Cow Creek Ranch, a family owned and operated ranch, has become the premier source for thick, meaty, environmentally adaptable bulls.

You can mark this sale down as one of the strongest sales this year in the beef industry, said Joe Reznicek, Cow Creek Ranch owner. When the final gavel tap sounded, 302 Cow Creek Ranch bulls averaged $3,362 and 584 customer-owned commercial bred heifers averaged $1,464. The two-day sale grossed $1,869,925. Commercial cattlemen represented the vast majority of sale attendees who appreciated the depth of quality, moderation and muscle mass in the Cow Creek Ranch genetic program. A total of 116 buyers took home Cow Creek Ranch cattle of which 74, or 64 percent, were repeat Cow Creek Ranch customers.

For many years our bread and butter at Cow Creek Ranch has been producing functional, profitable bulls for the commercial sector of our industry. Our vast customer base throughout our industry has made us one of the premier producers of genetics that commercial cattlemen can depend on year in and year out. We continue to thank our loyal commercial customers for these successes, said Reznicek.

The top selling lot of the sale was Lot 1, a genetic package representing one bull from each of the Cow Creek Ranch foundation sire lines. The package gives buyers the option of using one, two or all three bulls to enhance their genetic seedstock programs. The semen package sold for $45,000 to Rancho Grande de Peyrano, Argentina; Black River Brangus, Louisiana; A&D Cattle Company, South Carolina; and Town Creek Farm, Mississippi.

Town Creek Farm also took home the two high selling bulls at $15,000 and $13,500 respectively. The top bull, CCR Ultrablack 4329S, Lot 287, was under the watchful eye of many bidding contenders. Buyers respected this bull's tremendously deep rib and flank, muscle and powerful performance numbers. Selling for $13,500 was lot 188, CCR Buckshot 7029S2. Calved on February 17, 2006, this bull posted an impressive weaning weight of 702 pounds as well as strong yearling ultrasound readings. Both bulls will make a powerful addition to the Town Creek Farm genetic program.

New Mexico buyers, Mikayla Cherry and Lack-Morrison Brangus, teamed up with Traci Middleton, Tennessee, to purchase CCR Sleep Easy 027S, Lot 130, for $10,000. This massive, powerfully made bull had a tremendous amount of admirers who were attracted to his growth numbers and his overall completeness. The bull attracted even more attention with his healthy, economically-strong growth, maternal, and carcass Profit Point System Index numbers.

Cedar Ridge Ranch had the final bid of $10,000 on CCR Sleep Easy 32S7, Lot 80. Bidders on this lot were captivated by his strong performance and yearling ultrasound marbling score of 4.07 percent. This bull was extremely wide-tracking, thick-topped and clean-lined.

Also commanding a $10,000 sticker price was CCR Integrity 2716S6, Lot 105. Black River Brangus loaded this January 2006 bull on their trailer to add performance, marbling and maternal strength to their seedstock operation. The bull's soundness, muscle mass and depth earned him many admirers at sale time.

The customer-owned commercial bred heifer sale generated tremendous excitment. Heifers sold from $1,900 to $1,175 with a 584 head average of $1,464; the highest sale average recorded for this event. The sale marked its 13th consecutive year of occurrence and was endorsed by cattlemen from the Southern U.S. Commercial heifer buyers came to Cow Creek Ranch to do business and capitalize on the strong genetically source-verified offering.
