BRAUNVIEH INFLUENCER BULL SALE DELIVERS FEED EFFICIENCY

(Lincoln, Neb.) � The National Braunvieh Influencer Bull Test Sale held April 9, 2008 was a success. Bulls were sold into 17 different states, from Oregon to Alabama and from Utah to Virginia. Bidders from 22 states registered for buyer numbers. Bulls sold mostly to commercial buyers, both repeat and new buyers alike. At least eight bulls with top test data went back to Braunvieh breeders for herd sire prospects.

Averages

Ninety bulls sold for an average of $2,524. Fullblood and purebred bulls averaged $2,690 and the Beef Builders averaged $2,190. Within the Beef Builder category, the 50 percent Braunvieh, 50 percent Angus bulls averaged $2,562.

Sale report

The high selling bull was lot 38, MHF Genesis T737 ET. A set of high ratioing numbers, balanced EPDs and an attractive looking bull from a proven sire and cow family, sparked significant interest. MHF T737 recorded one of the lowest RFI numbers of the test at -4.35 (144 ratio), an ADG of 4.2 (116 ratio), an IMF of 4.6 (112 ratio), a 15.3 REA (109 ratio) and, at 1,311 pounds, the fourth highest yearling weight. Raised by Mystic Hill Farms, Culpeper, Va., lot 38 was a Mr. Golden Link �Spittin Image� 6193ET son out of MHF P Virginia M215 ET, a Miss Lifeline K0020 ET daughter. W/W Cattle Co., Section, Ala., Ridgefield Farm, Brasstown, N.C., 2 Bar Rocking K, Yancey, Texas, and JHL Ranch, Ashby, Neb., partnered to purchase the bull for $15,500.

The second high selling bull, Mystic Hill Farm's MHF T730 ET, sold for $8,000 to JHL Ranch. T730 was sired by MHF Prophet P416 and out of Lifeline K0020. He had a 1,315-pound yearling weight, ADG of 4.1 (113 ratio), an 18.1 REA (129 ratio) and an IMF of 4.0 (97). His RFI was .22.

The high selling fullblood bull sold for $5,000 to Harland Rupp, Hoisington, Kan. Middle Creek Braunvieh, Williamsburg, Kan., raised JMCB El Presidente. He was sired by C Farms Mr 5258 and out of Miss Golden Link 2515. Presidente had an ADG of 4.2 (118 ratio) and 4.6 IMF (112 ratio).

Two Beef Builder bulls topped their category at $4,500. BLC Polled Power 542T was raised by Brink Livestock, Piedmont, Kan., and sold to Bodine Brothers, Voltaire, N.D. Polled Power is a 7/8 bull out of Split Diamond U400 C404 and had a 127 RFI ratio and a 14.9 REA. Also selling for $4,500 was MHF T736 ET. The Mystic Hill-raised bull was purchased by May Family Farms, Oberlin, Kan. MHF T736 was sired by MHF Prophet and was out of a registered Angus Pathfinder dam. T736 had an RFI of -2.26 (123 ratio), the high yearling weight of the test at 1,374, a 4.3 ADG (102 ratio), a 4.3 IMF (105 ratio) and an 18.3 REA (120 ratio).

The next National Bull Test Sale will be held October 27, 2008 on Superior Livestock and broadcast from the American Royal in Kansas City. An open house to view the bulls will be held on October 26 at Green Springs Bull Test, Nevada, Mo. Bulls for the next sale are currently on test at Green Springs Bull Test facility.
