A nice crowd was on hand for the 18th Annual Yon Family Farms Performance Tested Angus & Charolais Bull Sale. The sale was held at the farm in Ridge Spring, S.C. on February 16, 2008. A total of 127 bulls sold, with 125 yearling Angus bulls selling for an average of $2,156, while two yearling Charolais bulls averaged $2,175.

Topping the sale was Lot 1, a son of Mytty In Focus, who had a huge Birth to Yearling EPD spread, as well as super ultrasound EPD's. He was selected by BJR Summerford Angus in Falkville, Ala., at $13,000 for 2/3 interest. (ABS Global has also become a partner in the Lot 1 bull since the sale.) The 2nd high seller was Lot 4, an 878 son at $5000 to Harris Farms in Spring Hope, N.C. Lot 2 rounded out the top three at $4,500 and will make his new home at R & D Farms in Elba, Ala. Lot 34 sold for $4,100 to Alan Wooten in Rembert, S.C. and Bar H in Lewisville, N.C. Two bulls sold for $4,000 each- Lot 11 sold to Leonard Farms in Louisburg, N.C., while Lot 29 was the selection of Gerald Waters from Wagener, S.C. The top selling Charolais bull went to Martin Charolais in Fallston, N.C., for $2,300.

Over half of the bulls sold to repeat buyers from the Yon performance program. Bulls were sold into both Carolinas, Georgia, Virginia, West Virginia, Tennessee, and Alabama.

Buyers and visitors enjoyed the traditional Chili lunch prepared and served up by the Yon's neighbors. The sale is truly a community event with many neighbors pitching in to extend some of the hospitality from the Ridge.

Yon Family Farms hosts two annual sales -- the third Saturday in February and on the first Saturday in November each year in Ridge Spring. In the sale coming up in November, forage-developed, coming 2-year-old bulls will be available as well as bred cows, cow-calf pairs, bred and open heifers.
