September 24-25, 2009
Russellville, Ark.

The Quest X celebrated a Decade of Fleckvieh Excellence on September 25th & 26th at the fabulous Dollar's Diamond D Sale Pavilion near Russellville, Ark. Hosted by Kent and Glenna Dollar, this annual event has become well known as the venue to acquire some of the most elite Fleckvieh genetics in North America. During the previous nine years nearly $5 million worth of Fleckvieh genetics have gone across the block confirming that Fleckvieh cattle are a sound investment. This year's sale was no exception as 52 lots of Fleckvieh sold for $426,055 to average $8,193; and 130 head of Fleck-influenced commercial cattle totaled $135,970.

Excitement and enthusiasm was evident throughout the offering and much of it was focused on Lot 40B, PHS Polled Wow Factor. An exceptional polled daughter of the immortal Solway Adonis out of the renowned Canadian donor, Bar 5 Belle, she was consigned by Andrew Schuller's Prospect Hill Simmentals of Granton, Ontario, Canada, and sold to Star West Farms of Chilliwack, British Columbia, Canada on a final bid of $30,000. Another striking young female who made many friends was the Dollar Diamond D consignment, DDD Pol Naomi, a homozygous polled Bar 5 Evolution daughter. One half interest in this unique breeding piece went for $26,500 to Bar 5 Stock Farms of Markdale, Ontario, Canada. Lot 1, consisting of ten semen shares in ProStock Red Rock, the first Porter's Reserve son ever to sell was offered by Diamond D Ranch and garnered $20,000. Buyers included: Circle E Ranch, Richton, iss.; Dickey Farms, Cord, Ark.; Dutton Simmentals, Dobbin, Texas; Hubnik Farms, Temple, Texas; Indian Creek Cattle Co., Huntsville, Ala.; Sand Hill Fleckvieh, Richton, Miss.; Sheltered S Ranch, Bedford, Iowa; and T5 Livestock, Wolfe City, Texas. One-half interest, full possession and exclusive U.S. semen rights in Bar 5 P SA Essential, a polled Full South African son of Salerika Exsellent also brought $20,000. Greg Kemp of Indian Creek Cattle Co. and Kent Dollar of Dollars Diamond D made this purchase from Ron Nolan's Bar 5 Stock Farms.

Prospect Hill Simmentals selected the next two high selling lots paying $17,750 for one-half interest in the Diamond D offering, DDD Pol Perfection, and $17,000 for Indian Creek's ICC Ms Crackerjac. A fancy, deep red, full South African open heifer by MF Mr. Evan 14P and consigned by Glenn Vaughn's Rocking V Farm, Annville, Ky., sold to Mikell and Mary Cheek Davis' Little Creek Farm, Starkville, Miss., for $15,000. DDD Pol Cornerstone, a three-quarter South African polled herdsire prospect consigned by Diamond D, was selected by Ricardo Alcala with a final bid of $14,200. Jim Ethridge and Donna Adams of Mitchell Lake Ranch, Franklin, Texas, added ICC Lady Quest to their program at $12,000. This open heifer from Indian Creek was one of the first Crackerjac daughters offered for sale in the U.S. Larry Throgmorton's T5 Livestock brought a polled, well patterned Sunny Valley Sargent open heifer to town and Carlos Lee, Panama, took her home with a $9,500 final bid.

Buyers were from 16 states including Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas and West Virginia as well as the provinces of British Columbia, Alberta and Ontario Canada, Mexico and Panama.

Sale Manager Roy Schwake, Schwake Cattle Service, along with present and past consignors presented Kent and Glenna Dollar with a beautiful bronze sculpture of their Diamond D logo in appreciation for providing an elite venue to market superior Fleckvieh genetics in the Quest For Excellence Sale.
