November 5-6, 2008
Ft. Pierce, Fla.

Adams Ranch's 30th Annual Field Day and Bull Sale were held on November 5th and 6th with record crowds.

The November 5th Field Day covered Cattle Ranching The Total Package. Maria Silveira, from the University of Florida's Beef Cattle Research Center at Ona, covered the relationship of cattle grazing and the environment. Grasslands are good for Florida's water sheds as well as air quality.

Mike and Bud Adams covered topics of cattle shaped by natural selection and performance, and the importance of heterosis in a Composite breeding program. The use of hybrid females has increased fertility through early puberty while maintaining uniformity of the individuals.

DNA Testing for Tenderness, Quality Grade, and Feed Efficiency is leading us to produce cattle that are the Total Package. They are Florida adapted, fertile cattle with carcass traits to perform in the feedlots and at the retail level.

The afternoon ended in cattle viewing and a pasture tour.

The following day the Sale was kicked off with a cake auction for the benefit of the St. Lucie Cattlewomen's Association. They were followed by the sale of four Adams Ranch raised horses seasoned for ranch work, which sold for an average price of $3,200.

The main event began with the Braford bulls selling for an average price of $2,360. The Composite bulls averaged $1,600. 57 Bred Heifers and several pairs averaged $1,080. The sale was wrapped up by the sale of 82 head of open yearling heifers for an average price of $720.

The livestock went to 35 different buyers from Florida to Missouri.

Adams Ranch Family would like to thank everyone for taking their time in making this a successful event.
