January 9, 2010
Starkville, Miss.

The winter storm that rolled through the South in early January brought rain, snow, ice, blustery winds and temperatures that dropped into the teens in Starkville, Miss. In spite of the conditions, a good crowd arrived at the Little Creek Farms Sale Facility on January 9 to appraise the offering of Full Fleckvieh Simmental and Red Angus cattle. Sale hosts Mikell and Mary Cheek Davis, along with guest consignors, assembled a select group of cattle for this fifth Magnolia Classic event.

In the live Full Fleckvieh portion of the sale unsure economic times had little effect on the enthusiasm and demand for these cattle as 34 lots sold for an average of $2,951; one herd sire prospect brought $7,000; two embryo lots averaged $3,670; two semen lots grossed $3,320 and ten commercial bulls averaged $1,545.

The tremendously popular LCF Winsome 690W, a Polled, 1/2 South African March yearling donor prospect led the day selling on a final bid of $8,000. This Little Creek Farm consignment will make her new home at the Buzzard Hollow Ranch in Granbury Texas. LCF P Exalter 227U, also from Little Creek Farm and like Winsome, sired by Bar 5 P SA Expert, brought $7,000. He will now be an integral part of the Polled Fleckvieh program at Tom Zook's Triple Z Simmentals at Alto Mich. Little Creek's Lot 2 bred heifer, another Polled Expert daughter who sold bred to FSS King Arthur's Majesty, went along with her half sister, Winsome, to Buzzard Hollow Ranch for $5,000. Another lot purchased for $5,000 was LCF Three Sixes 313U. This cherry red, goggle eyed herd sire will now walk the pastures at Potomoc State College, West Virginia. Guest consignors Jim Ethridge and Donna Adams, Mitchell Lake Ranch, Franklin Texas, brought a stout yet feminine daughter of the immortal DDD Broadway G534 who was safe to Double Bar D Make M Polled. Courtney Martin, Rockton Ill., selected her with a $4,000 bid. Larry Eurig's Crimson Tide Fleckvieh of Mt Forest, Ontario, sold three Smithbilt Molson daughters, one going to Courtney Martin for $3,900; one to Moore Farms, Huntsville Ala., for $3,600 and one to Little Creek Farms, Starkville Miss., for $3,100.

Buyers from twelve states that include Alabama, Arkansas, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio, West Virginia and Texas along with three Canadian buyers from Alberta and Ontario. Additionally the Red Angus cattle in the Magnolia Classic 2010 grossed $57,075.

Sale managed by Roy Schwake, Schwake Cattle Co., LaRue Texas.

Auctioneer: Jim Birdwell, Fletcher, Okla.
